Romney would keep part of Obamacare

In a surprise admission, Mitt Romney says he likes parts of the healthcare reform law and would keep them if elected. He had previously said he would scrap the plan if elected.

  1. This reminds me a little of the chap who was clobbered in the goolies by a cricket ball (a very hard object). This caused great swelling of the middle stump associated with severe pain. The cry to the nurse on arrival at the hospital was " Take away the pain but please leave the swelling))

    Cheers from Aussie

  2. Scrap it all then implement the good parts, if there are any. Justice Roberts destroyed his legacy.

  3. Look, we HAVE to have SOME kind of healthcare reform. The current system is broken. Docs are leaving family practices in droves due to the complicated and cumbersome paperwork. This will not be something from which we can recover quickly. It takes a long time and a lot of money to train a family physician. They are retiring early and leaving the profession.

This ACA proposal is only a beginning, as I see it, something we can use as a base and tweak til it is more nearly the answer to our problems. I am for the single payer option, it makes sense. I am not dumb enough to think that I would get the same health care I get now with my godawfully expensive private policy. It is grandfathered and I have to have it because of a genetic blood condition. I am uninsurable otherwise. Had I NOT had the policy in place when I was diagnosed I'd be totally without insurance.

My knee replacement was 80K, without the follow-up therapy. Those types of operations will not be provided under the ACA, rather folks will just have to be in pain and hobble around the best they can. Rx will not be given for pain meds like Vicodin, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone etc......... A lot of people will suffer a lot more with the ACA.

The upside I see is that if people know they won't get care, they make take better care of themselves by stopping smoking, losing weight, exercising and eating a good diet. The problem comes in with people like me, who have genetic conditions for which there is no insurance but requires medical supervision. Children who are born with genetic conditions should be covered somehow.
