ACT of WAR-----Our ambassador to Libya slain with 4 other US personnel------INSIDE our Embassy

Terrorists-----------NOT street rioters--------killed US personnel inside our Embassy in Libya. Initially it was thought that street riots had gotten out of hand, due to a small movie insulting to Islam, but it now appears that a planned act of terrorism, has targeted the US and its embassies.

US Marines are in transit now, to Benghazi, while air power is being sent initally to remove any remaining personnel--------then what?

  1. Politics has now, of course, entered into the picture as Romney condemns this henious act of terrorism.

Foreign policy experience is now front and center of the Presidential election. This is going to be a rough ride-----more so than it already is.

  2. "--------then what?" someone asks.

We sigh with the bad news, extend them another open hand, appease with flowered words on how diplomacy will win in the long run, cut our defenses and reduce our footprint then send them more money to buy their love, hand Dinnerjacket a world stage podium at the end of September and quietly retire back to our beds to slit our own throats.

    1. That is a tad cryptic-------but I get it. The cycle comes full circle again, and again and again, as the snake swallows it's tail.

  3. Obama's response was LAME. Hardly any condemnation. It was more like he was making a martyr out of our ambassador. I wonder if our ambassador wanted to be a martyr? I doubt it. It's a disgrace. By the way, they weren't terrorists, they were part of the "freedom fighters" that Obama supported in killing Ghadafi. Benghazi is the home of the rebel movement. Rebel now become de facto government.

COMPLETELY PREDICTABLE! It was stated her many times that Obama was facilitating the takeover of that country.

Obama's foreign policy is a nightmare.

He has shamed our country over and over and over.

Take a bow Obama, this is your swan song. Oh wait, you've already taken your bows... over and over and over.

  4. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt, Libya, all now collapsed governments for various reasons, usually because they were headed by dictators ......Will we allow Isreal to goad us into Iran next?

The American public is war weary-------and now we are broke too.

    1. Of those listed, except Afgan, all singularly dictating as opposed to Afgan which was monotheistic thuggery dictation. It wasn't the dictatorships as their downfalls but muslim religious zealotry which is even worse as that is as great or even greater threat than a secular dictatorship. Despite all the rhetoric of how Islam is such a peaceful religion it has no concept of democracy per se but rather the agenda of the caliphate world domination.

As for Israel, who is goading whom here? Islam will turn Hitler, their hero, into a dutiful choirboy.

  6. Obama assisted the overthrow of Egypt and Libya which resulted in those countries being radicalized. The success of the radicalization movement directly carried over in to Syria(which has not collapsed).

And take you anti-Semitic views somewhere else. Israel faces a real threat and is still our ally. We have a commitment to them that needs to be honored.

    1. I offer the following for debate after reading your post.
You state "we have a commitment to them (Israel) which must be honoured.
Perhaps if we look back at history, we can see the difficulties faced by America and the problems the commitments have delivered to your people.
What did America want post WW2? Certainly she hoped for peace and economic domination for the US. America was mindful of the threat of Communism during the war and immediately after when the Iron Curtain came down as the USSR bared its teeth and invented the "Bomb". The West went into a frenzy and any minor incursion by a Communist state became a cause for sabre rattling, no matter where in the world the trouble occurred. Korea was the first major problem and the results can be seen and felt by millions even today.
Various other spot fires needed American might to extinguish and at home the heady days of McCarthyism pilloried and besmirched the reputation of many good Americans. Vietnam was a disaster in planning and execution and there is little favourable to say about the recent conflicts in the Middle East. The regimes there were certainly bad but they were a problem for the countries concerned and if not for economic need for oil, I doubt the US would have interfered.
Afghanistan was perhaps a justified war,9/11 was a heinous crime deserving of retribution.

So, where are we now and where to from here? Common sense tells us that expenditure on other people’s wars will increase the debit level astronomically. America is currently broke and at some point in the not too distant future the world will simply stop buying your paper. America has carried the flag over the free world for nearly a century, time to lay down the burden and heal yourselves.

      Cheers from Aussie

    3. Carol, and Kingston,

I think I'm a bit lost on what Kingston is attempting to espouse, or otherwise what point he is trying to make. The issue with Israel, as I know it, is that it is a country surrounded by countries that include people who don't want her existence to continue. One, of course, has specifically voiced an intent to achieve that goal. Military actions cost a lot of money. Sorry, that isn't a revelation. Diplomacy, snactions, and all that need time to work. I haven't seen anything yet that should give Israel a warm and fuzzy. I thought Netanyahu had a quite reasonable question when he asked, essentially, how long is enough? I'm aware the wording was not that. He was asking for something (gasp) a little more specific, i.e., what would it take to signal a need for action before a point of no return (beyond Israel's limited strike capability).

A complex issue. But blah, blah, blahhing, hand-wringing, and fingerpointing don't appear to have been particularly effective with Iran.

And we do appear to have a wonderful new government in Egypt. What I'd be interested in knowing, going off-topic, is why, if the assault in Libya went on for hours (however many), no jets or marine-rich helicopters were dispatched. But I guess that could have been a matter of logistics/distance.

Kingston: exactly what was the U. S. supposed to do when the USSR was in its mode of aggression? You know, The Wall that wasn't built to keep west Berliners out, the wonderful treatment of the proletariat, all of that. It surely seemed like there was quite a bit of joy associated with The Fall of The Wall, as I've heard it named, yes?

    4. Jean, my thanks for the response.
My point was not in connection with Israel or any other specific nation. I was tracing the history since WW2 of the involvement of your country in the many wars and skirmishes which have occurred throughout the world. In the beginning of this period the conflict concerned firstly ideology and then self preservation of America using the principals of the Monroe doctrine first adopted in about 1825.
Your specific question concerning the action America could have taken in Berlin post the war is part of the problem. I believe the present economic mess in which you find yourselves began then. As I have acknowledged often, the world owes a debit to America for pulling the heavy load it is also pertinent that Australia has been there in support every time there has been conflict.

      Cheers from Aussie

    1. LS,

there is no justice for this act, in fact there is no reason for this act------other than hatred.

The President is following the "walk softly and carry a big stick," and I would not be surprised if somewhere in Libya they will feel his presence before they hear him coming. Just because he is not jumping up and down and screaming for revenge does NOT mean he is not doing anything.

Clinton described Obama well when he said to the effect that, "the man has a cool exterior, but he burns inside."

    2. Iran thinks Obama walks softly and doesn't have a stick at all that he is willing to use. He imposes sanctions and then let's people like Iran and Russia have exemptions. Iran's biggest trading partners.

    1. LS,

sorry to inform you that facts rewrite history all the time. It has now beenshown the W missed 5 or 6 notifications that terrorists were in the US taking flight lessons. That this fact has been brought to light, and documented, does not mean that I am (nor anyone else for that matter) rewriting history.

It is rewriting itself as we speak.

    2. Bwahahaha - Obama has SKIPPED HALF of his intelligence briefings in the last ~4 years. He didn't attend any intelligence briefing in the week prior to 9/11. Too busy playing golf he is.

The OBama is great because Bush sucked doesn't work in my book.

I know there is a better leader for our country and that man is Mitt Romney. I'm looking forward to seeing Obama ousted in just 55 days.

Are you going to riot when Obama loses?

    3. Carol,

Those five or six notifications about flight lessons? What was the administration supposed to do? Were those notifications 'more clear' because of hindsight? Didn't the previous administration have some indications re OBL? Wasn't there at least one instance where he could have been taken out but for fear of loss of innocent life? Would that fear have been muted with the benefit of hindsight?

I think blaming this mees on Bush really is a stretch.

If you honestly believe what you have written, I fear for your country if whoever YOU elect embraces your thought processes. There is hope however because I fear you are a member of a very small minority (both parties) of citizens blinkered by ignorance and political myopia.

    2. Anonymous,

Wag The Dog aside, I happen to think your statement is uncalled for, and at the least unfounded.

I don't care for Mr. Axelrod, but the allusion to Hitler also seems a bit out of line. But then, a lot of people died or gave up a part of themselves to allow you the freedom to speak or post as you wish.

  12. A war is the LAST thing I could imagine calling for, it is the LAST desparate action when all civil communication does not work to resolve issues. I wish we were NOT in the wars in which we currently find ourselves engaged and I hope never to see another one begun for ANY reason.
