Obama Says He Should Pay More Taxes

Obama Says He Should Pay More Taxes

President Obama said the following at a campaign rally: “I’ve been hearing a lot of these Republicans talking about, oh, that’s class warfare, and he just wants to redistribute, and doesn’t believe in work, and he’s trying to create an entitlement society, and this and that and the other. Let me be absolutely clear: I should pay more taxes, and folks in my income bracket should pay more taxes, and certainly folks who are making billions of dollars should pay more taxes, not because I want to take their money and just give it to somebody else.”
Romney and Ryan should call the President’s bluff on his statement that he should pay more taxes. There’s a place online where he can do it.
Should rich people pay more for the homes they buy, the cars they drive, the clothes they wear, and the food they eat because they can afford it? Why should multi-millionaires pay a higher percentage than people who make $50,000 per year? For that matter, why should anyone pay more in taxes than anyone else? Taxation should not be punitive. We all get the same services from the government. Why should rich people pay more for those services when they don’t pay more for anything else? A case could be made that rich people receive fewer services and yet they are made to pay for other people to receive services.
Once again we hear noble words from rich people that they should pay more taxes, and they want to pay more taxes, but we don’t see them doing it. It’s very easy to pay more taxes if the President wants to, but he’s stupid if he does.
It’s also a bit disingenuous for the president of the United States to say that rich people should pay more taxes when he doesn’t have to pay for anything. He’s living a billionaire’s lifestyle without having to pay a billionaire’s IRS bill. Maybe it’s time the IRS assesses the President and Congress for all the perks they get without ever having to pay taxes on them.
When Oprah gave away $7 million worth of Pontiac G6s — 276 in all — to her very surprised studio audience, they learned that they would have to pay taxes on the car’s value. The same was true for the medals that were won at the London Olympic Games, although some Congressmen are trying to get the tax assessment abated.
Every time the President takes a ride in Air Force One to play golf, he should have to pay taxes on the value of that flight. Playing golf is not a job requirement. If I played golf, I could not deduct the expenses. The President should have to live like the rest of us.
Every time President Obama eats at the White House, he should have to pay taxes on the food.
When Michelle and children fly off to a vacation using government transportation, paid for by the taxpayers, they should be made to pay the taxes on what it cost since it is a benefit to them. They are not employees of the government being paid for a service.
If rich people think they should pay more taxes, that is, give money to wasteful government programs that only contribute to the nation’s problems, then they are delusional. It’s much better if they send their money to organizations like the Salvation Army that uses almost all of its donations to help people in real need. No one is forced to give. All the donations are voluntary. If the Salvation Army ever misuses the donated money, donors can stop giving.
When we learned that the General Services Administration (GSA) was wasting tax-payer money on an expensive five-day “team building” conference in Las Vegas, the agency was not shut down. We’re still paying taxes to it. We haven’t been reimbursed for the nearly $1 million dollars that was spent. “More recently, an investigation led by Inspector General Brian D. Miller found 115 missing Apple iPods meant for an employee-rewards program.”
It’s not their money. They don’t care how much they spend since it’s not theirs to lose.

  1. Congress needs to pass legislation to tax the mutt and mooch'elle for their ridiculous taxpayer personal spending.

  2. Class warfare is exactly what the dems are after. Each party must find the motivations of their base. They both play on these divisive themes to motivate voters to the polls. The repubs are really no better. What is it that most people want out of DC politics? I think it is to mostly be left alone for the most part. They also want a system that fairly enforces the rules so that one group doesn't have a governmental advantage over the other. Somehow, people were allowed to purchase favorable legislation for themselves. The system no longer feels fair and it is becoming more difficult to support.

Surely this is framed up at DNC HQ...it's their end game.

    2. They've indoctrinated enough people now they don't even hide it anymore. I read an article today that said 46% of young people don't think there's anything wrong with socialism.

  3. "live like the rest of us."

I would much prefer if that could be made to apply to Congress. Oh, I forgot, they write the laws.

Does anyone see a root cause for corruption?

Kinda neat how Congress excludes members of Congress from the laws they pass. More do as I say not as I do government, and this practice is nonpartisan.
