Obama campaign says five years of Romney returns is enough

The Obama campaign is calling on Mitt Romney to release five years of his tax returns, and promises it will end its criticism on the issue if Romney does so.
The latest chapter in the tax battle came in a letter from Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, who made the offer.
"Gov. Romney apparently fears that the more he offers, the more our campaign will demand that he provide," Messina wrote to Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades. "So I am prepared to provide assurances on just that point: If the governor will release five years of returns, I commit in turn that we will not criticize him for not releasing more — neither in ads nor in other public communications or commentary for the rest of the campaign."

  1. Obama is a chump. They've seen the tax returns. They want to point out something they don't like. Class warfare at the least. Normally they leak this stuff out. However this time, they appear afraid to do so.

    1. I'll see your 5 years returns and raise you one certified copy of a long form birth certificate, 2 college transcripts, and explanation about your social security number and an explanation why an American citizen was in a country banned to US citizens in 1981.. unless you were a Muslim, sponsored by your embassy for official business?

    2. A good number of these questions should really be explored in more depth by the Romney campaign. Being that they haven't been investigated by the press, including Fox News, means that there is nothing there or that the shrinking ownership of mass media outlets has decided that they don't want us to know. I'm beginning to feel that it is more of the latter.

  2. Well. Gee, Jim, I'm sure the Romney camp will be so glad of your generous offer. Of course, you'll find other things to criticize in those 'only five years'. You'll just stop critizing about the number of returns. Reminds me of Reid and his 'it's true, somebody did tell me that' statement, and Pelosi confirming it. Except that they both neglected to mention they could not verify whether the content of that tell was true. Minor, but important. I say, demand away.
