Hostess Union Workers

What goes through the mind of a union worker that he/she rather go unemployed instead of accept cutbacks from their struggling employer? Makes no sense to me. At least keep your job while you look for another one. Did they think Congress would bail them out like GM because they are unionized? Do they not know of Mrs. O's campaign for healthier foods?

  1. What goes through your mind when you repost the same topic under a different heading in order to avoiding adding something meaningful to the discussion in progress?

An inference in your post here is that union concessions would have saved Hostess. I encourage you to read this link if your attention span can last long enough http://management.fortune.cnn.com/2012/07/26/hostess-twinkies-bankrupt/

    1. So what? The teamsters agreed to the new plan. The other union didn't.

At this point, it doesn't matter where they came from, but how to move the company FORWARD.

I guess the Union workers felt they were better off getting their pension payments from the PBGC.

    2. Actually, the other union had agreed to concessions in the past but not this time. This story is a little more complex then either you or Gotta give it credit for. Given the return to the brink for this company after previous union concessions, why should we believe that more concessions would save the company? Falling sales is not the fault of the union, and taking a cut in pay is not going to suddenly cause an increase in sales. I can't say the union wasn't short sighted here, but it's a little more complex then a simple minded talking point that the union is causing the demise of this company.

I am personally disappointed that the Natures Oven brand will be off the shelf as that is one of the few commercially made breads that does not have 100 ingredients in it.

    7. I don't think Livestrongest said anywhere that it wasn't a complex story, Max.

No, taking a pay cut will not increase sales. But taking a pay cut could give the company some time to find a more viable sales plan.

Unless these union people all had better jobs lined up what do they gain from NOT working with management?

    8. Teri,
The union has just discovered they do not run the business and their pension plan is unsustainable.
