A flip flop???

A flip flop?
President Obama on Thursday may have moved the goalposts.

Now, we knew from the beginning that our work would take more than one year, or even one term -- because let's face it, the middle class was getting hammered long before the financial crisis hit, Obama said in Green Bay, Wis., as he ventured back onto the campaign trail after a three-day hiatus due to super storm Sandy.

The possible adjustment in the president's timetable for turning around the economy comes one day before the Labor Department is set to release the October jobs report. Is he expecting bad news?  Last month's survey provided a dose of seemingly good news for the economy and for Obama's re-election campaign, showing the jobless rate dipping below 8 percent. Some economists, though, questioned the accuracy of the statistics.

The president has long been making the case that he just needs more time to finish the job he started. At an August 2011 fundraiser, he said: When I said change we can believe in, I didn't say change we can believe in tomorrow.

The claim, though, that "we knew from the beginning" it would take more than one term is a departure from what Obama told NBC's Matt Lauer in February 2009. At the time, Obama said, "A year from now, I think people are going to see that we're starting to make some progress, but there's still going to be some pain out there. If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition."

The question, why the sudden change?  If Romney would have said this, he would be accused of flip flopping.  The MSM has totally ignored this comment.

  1. Good post Lew but I wonder if, with the benefit of hindsight ,would the Pres have made the same comments. Did he then realize the gravity of the situation and the degree of difficulty faced by the export market with Europe in free fall?
I think we can all agree that Europe is a basket case which of itself can never solve your manufacturing problems. Manufacturing however will pick up as a natural progression as more and more Americans begin to regain confidence in your selves and rather than your government.
I have a gut feeling that the people are about sick of the way your political parties are behaving and public opinion may well be the final arbitrator which will take your nation forward. I do not refer to the results of the forthcoming election here, somehow I think governments of either persuasion will be found wanting and the people may lead, not by revolution, but by their individual efforts as they strive to fulfill that basic urge of humanity, to look after and to feed their own families.
    Cheers from Aussie

    1. It's meant as a comparison to the continual onslaught of flip flop bashing done to Romney.

The president has filled 38% of the 500 campaign promises made in 2008 yet is isn't mentioned in the media.

The bright side is that it will all soon be over. We will either have 4 more years similar to the last 4 years or hopefully a new direction.

Neither party can repair the damage done to the country in the last 12 years. What we can hope for is restraint in spending so the debt can be paid through growth with out killing the American tax payer. I don't think that will happen and the debt will need to be addressed via growth, limited tax increases and reduced spending.
