You should be concerned about this William. I'm not sure exactly who your pick is, but from your area of the political spectrum, I believe there is a perception that Obama is a pussy, and a stupid idiot who is single handedly causing the entire middle east to fall apart. Russia remains a ruthless superpower who is, outwardly, appearing to re-embrace the philosophy is just killing or brutally repressing anyone who disagrees with them. China has always been this way, as has Iran post revolution, and here in, in one of our "close and trusted allies" we see the same thing. We are having left and right debates about why Obama is intentionally kissing the ass of a country like Iran, and why we are "leading from behind", yet, in Saudi Arabia, the country where most of the hijackers came from, we have a player who is instrumentally involved, in one way or another, with supporting terrorism as long as it is aimed at their enemies. Nobody running for POTUS is discussing this at all.
In addition to which, Saudi Arabia has intentionally refused to reduce their oil production, a brazen ploy to try and drive U.S. producers out of business.
Regardless of the intention, there are multiple effects occurring now
1)With the price of oil low, it makes the Keystone pipeline very economically challenged, and hence, it also keeps tar sand less economically viable
2) It also makes alternative energy less economically viable whether solar, wind or nat gas in the US
3) This is a tough one; the low cost benefits poorer Americans and hence keeps us tied at the hip with the Saudi's. Since we allied with them, we are by default against everyone who is their enemy and we are doing a lot of their dirty work, especially if we keep fucking around in Iraq who is now, thanks to us, religiously at odds with the Saudi's
4) Going back to point one, the fall of oil has also steadily driven down the value of the Canadian dollar versus the greenback and this is a problem for me. Right now, the NHL is considering expanding again and Vegas here has a brand, spanking new arena, a commitment of over 10k people to buy season tickets, and a potential owner who has bent over backwards to get an NHL team here. The downside is that Quebec, which had and lost a team in part because of a shitty Canuck buck, also wants a team again and has more than enough interest to get a team there, but likely will be in trouble almost immediately trying to pay multimillion dollar salaries in US dollar value while bringing in Canuck bucks from the fans.
The net of this is that despite overwhelming support from the Las Vegas market, the NHL probably will not expand here until it is again viable to give Canada another team. This sucks big time.
I'll say this for the Saudi's. They get rid of their enemies. They don't shack em up in some island resort for fifteen years and then decide to release selected individuals for political reasons. They just remove the players from the scene and move on.
As for the oil play the frackers have induced the energy baby. The Saudi's know that our market will deal with Nat gas and oil abundance for the next couple of hundred years. Anythimg they do won't prevent the high tect wells from eventually satisfying all North American needs.
They are trying to prune Iran and ISIS oil merchants off the vine. At the same time crowding out other smaller players that supply Asian markets. Ironically leftest Venezuela is being crushed.

The countries who get rid of their enemies by simply killing them do not operate by rules of a constitution that guarantees the freedoms we have. I don't know why, but keep trying to engage you on these topics as if you will actually make a reasoned response, which isn't likely. If you ever did decided to have such a conversation, I'd be curious to know how a US could execute and eliminate people that are "enemies" while still being within the laws of the United States. Rand Paul was perhaps the ONLY person to question Obama's drone war. The more we engage in just killing people we don't like, the closer we get to just being Russia, China or Saudi Arabia.
Why is anyone held for 15 years without a trial? Hold military trials, if they are guilty of acts warranting the death sentence then liquidate. If not just keep them coup'd up until this war on terror is over (which may take a long time, but the cold war took 40 years, so what?)

Ouch, I feel for ya Rick, and yeah, they are in tough shape. The 90's were some of the darkest years for the Chicago Blackhawks and it's no fun watching the team get beat regularly and not make the playoffs.
Good as Lou Lamoriello was, I think he held that team back from evolving like many other teams did. At the height of the Devils run, that was some brutal hockey to watch in the clutch and grab era, but they were a very tough team to play. They are behind the curve in being allowed to let their kids come up and play a faster game, but teams like that can really make some jumps forward and generate some excitement. When the previous, ham fisted owner of the Hawks, Bill Wirtz died, it was like a shackle was released and they screamed upward. The Devils are due for a correction upward I think.
Me and my hockey friends out here are really hoping that we get a brand new team. Any team is better than no team, but I think all of us would like the chance to root for team from day one of it's history. That would be pretty cool.
