This lady says it exactly how it is. Notice who she says its for. Hint: Not only quails, not only self defense, not only other countries...

  2. If that dude had tried the same thing in Texas, he would have been much less successful. In fact, he may have been completely unsuccessful

It's also so that you can kill and maim as many people as possible when you lose your mind and wish to make a violent statement to the world that you feel has wronged you. Existence of guns is not the biggest problem, but the ease with which they can be obtained by the mentally unstable is certainly part of the problem. From the pro gun lobby, there is always the glorified promise that if we packed more guns, the whack jobs who go looking for slaughter would be gunned down quickly and righteousness would prevail. But, implied in that view is that violence is essentially good and as long as we can respond to "bad" violence with a stronger but "good" form of violence, the republic is bettered for it.

So, now we will likely getting ANOTHER meaningless "ban" on assault weapons that will include an expiration of the law and allow manufacturers to take a year to mass produce millions of weapons and high capacity clips so that when the "ban" actually takes place, there will be so much stock on hand that dealers will be selling them for decades to come. Meanwhile, violence will not be reduced a tiny bit and the gun lobby will claim that gun restrictions don't work. It's pathetic, but it's how we do things in America
