SPENDING IS THE PROBLEM

7 comments:

  1. What problem? We are providing a meager income and health care for old people that either planned poorly for their retirements or didn't have the resources. We are supporting an underclass of citizens that either were too lazy to work their way up through the system or never were provided opportunities. We are supporting businesses that were forward thinking enough to line their favorite politician's pocket. Unfortunately, a lot of these businesses produce weapons of mass destruction so we have to find opportunities to use some of them so there is a reason to make more. We are supporting a world police force that makes the decision for manufacturers to leave our shores for near slave labor to build their products much easier. Our government is providing jobs for people that can't find opportunities in the private sector. This gives them some purpose, but unfortunately, the purpose a lot of the time is to regulate business and personal behaviors. This makes us less free by the day.

I would say that your assessment of spending being THE PROBLEM is rather simplistic. The bigger problem is our perception of the fundamental purpose of government and it's programs.

    1. Great post storm, but simplistic and woefully inaccurate is the only kind of discussion we can have today. As William points out, and to some degree Rojay, we are still determined to fight to the death that this is somehow a political problem as in if we just vote for alleged conservatives, it will all go away.

Something that never ceases to amaze me is the magical belief that if we just cut spending drastically, our 16 trillion in debt will just go away. That somehow we can continue to take in less then we spend and pay down debt. You have nicely described where a chunk of our money goes and how there is an ever shrinking pool of it available for those who do chose to work. The only solution you will hear though is some completely tone deaf wail to cut spending everywhere.

    2. It's all about the conversation on what we can afford and what we cannot afford and who should pay for it.

That day is getting closer as Ben is in the debt purchasing business again. Look for more inflation and the invisible tax issues that go along with it.

It's pretty interesting, Ben creates money and purchases treasuries. Ben then receives interest from the treasuries which he turns over to the treasury. With the Federal Reserve buying bonds, we will never have a failed auction. Just another way to prop up the country until someone addresses the spending, tax issue.

This is utterly lost on so many people Lou. 50% of America doesn't pay tax? Your comment points out exactly how they pay. No such thing as a free lunch, for anyone.
