BIG LABOR

At the end of October, Hurricane Sandy inflicted a massive amount of damage on New Jersey and the northeast -- homes destroyed, gas and food shortages, millions of citizens without power.

While visiting cleanup efforts with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Barack Obama declared "We are not going to tolerate red tape. We are not going to tolerate bureaucracy."

Apparently, Barack Obama's words do not apply to Big Labor.

You see, according to news reports, volunteer electrical workers from Alabama were turned away from New Jersey because they dared to exercise their rights under Alabama's Right to Work law to remain free from forced unionism.

This is outrageous to say the least.

Even during a time of crisis, Big Labor's top priority remained expanding its forced-dues power over workers.

"Decatur said it tried to contact other areas that needed help, but "based on the uncertainty of union requirements that we could not agree to and the uncertainty of whether a resolution could be reached, we ultimately" decided to return the crew to Alabama."

"New Jersey, which is the home of many powerful unions, has been ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, especially Jersey Shore communities like Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant."

  2. From your article,
"Decatur said in a separate statement following Hardin's comments that its crews were held in place in Virginia pending clarification of documents received from the IBEW that "IMPLIED (emphasis mine) a requirement of our employees to agree to union affiliation while working in the" New York and N.J. areas.

Decatur said that as it waited for clarification, "we became aware that Seaside Heights had received the assistance they needed from other sources. TO BE CLEAR, AT NO TIME WERE OUR CREWS 'TURNED AWAY' FROM THE UTILITY IN SEASIDE HEIGHTS"

To consider that article and actual piece of news William is ridiculous. Countless times the phrase "reports said" but did not attribute the reports to anyone. This is an absolute bullshit piece of propaganda that doesn't even really support your premise. Did you even freaking read it?

Read it again William. The author of that hit piece did not do all of their homework. The owner of the Alabama company states clearly here, they were not turned away and as of the time of the article, they were waiting for a clarification. If this is such a huge problem, why aren't there more stories on it?

    4. Max, I had a crew from Alabama work in front of my house. I didn't say they didn't do work in various towns.

It is apparent that some BIG LABOR dick tried to get them to sign a labor agreement in the middle of a time when hundreds of thousands had no power, heat, or water.

      Disgraceful.

    5. Apparent is the operative word. Just like in the other article we are spatting on, it's a lone incident being used to portray some massive outrage of injustice that the article does not make the case for. One instance is portrayed here and even that instance is not portrayed with a shred of journalistic integrity that matches the sensationalism of the headline.

And yes, the lack of integrity by the author of that hit piece is disgraceful. But it's fox news.

    6. Locally we have, and I mean right smack dab in the middle of the storm area, an electricians union that has no problem crushing local small business by running display ads on its highway billboard.

They are boldface in their efforts to crush non-union shops. They do this 24/7/365.

Don't tell me about the stifling effect of union presence in New Jersey. I have lived it my entire lifetime.

Why are we, one of the richest places on the planet, also one of the places with the largest state debt?

      UNIONS!

A favorite battle cry that is never backed up by anything but emotion. Union workers do not work cheap, that is a given. However, they are not on food stamps while working a full time job like many workers in shitty fast food or walmart jobs. Non union giants like walmart are no less ruthless in crushing competition, that is how business works William. Personally, I have expressed my desire to not work union shop as I have never worked in one where the relationship between management and workers was not adversarial. Still, unions were a significant part of what built a middle class. Just as they became prone to excess and unrealistic compensation, so too now has the executive bracket of the business world.
