Trey Gowdy Lays Down the Law: Hillary Must Turn Over Email Server or Face ‘Full Powers of the House’
Gowdy’s letter firmly requests that Clinton turn over her email server by April 3rd to a neutral third party, or he plans to litigate:

ABC News reports Gowdy’s objective is to answer persistent questions:
“The Committee must have objective assurances it, and by extension the House of Representatives as a whole, has received all relevant information requested and necessary for a thorough investigation into what happened before, during and after the attacks in Benghazi, Libya.”Gowdy insists that Mrs. Clinton’s email scandal doesn’t just concern the Select Committee on Benghazi:
“More broadly, the equities in these emails extend beyond this Committee. The House of Representatives and the American people are entitled to a complete accounting of the Secretary’s official record during her time as Secretary of State.”Gowdy sent the letter to Hillary Clinton’s attorney David Kendall, who represented Bill Clinton during his impeachment hearings.
In the latter half of the letter, Gowdy warns Mrs. Clinton that if she refuses to act, she’ll be turned over for prosecution on the charge of contempt to the Speaker of the House:

A perceived lack of precautions left the former Secretary of State’s server susceptible to online criminal activity. Some ‘white hat hackers‘ have claimed the software and email program she used left her server vulnerable to illegal entry.
According to Bloomberg:
“Hillary Clinton didn’t take a basic precaution with her personal e-mail system to prevent hackers from impersonating or “spoofing” her identity in messages to close associates, according to former U.S. officials familiar with her e-mail system and other cyber-security experts.”The Huffington Post offered this comparison:
“This vulnerability put anyone who was in communication with her clintonemail.com account while she was secretary of state at risk of being hacked. Clinton said at the United Nations last week that there were no security breaches of her personal e-mail server, which she used to send and receive more than 60,000 professional and personal e-mails. But former cyber-security officials and experts told us that there were gaps in the system.”
“What if Dick Cheney, not Hillary Clinton had deleted 30,000 emails from a private, at home server?”Mrs. Clinton said she handed over 30,000 of her emails to the State Department and deleted another 30,000 because she claimed they were “private.” The criteria she gave to the press to determine what is public, and what is private, has been inconsistent.
The Associated Press is also suing the former Secretary of State for access to the remaining emails.

Is there a possibility that the Gowdy committee is nothing more than a trolling committee looking to find something which probably does not exist, but by continuing the circus they are keeping pressure on an almost certain winner in the next Presidential contest?. In other words, is this not a political smokescreen designed to weaken the opposition?. Your politics certainly do have a smell about them which unfortunately is sometimes replicated here in Aussie. Even as a supporter of the right I find this charade distastfull.
ReplyDeleteI will not prejudge the outcome. There does appear to be many illegalites on the part of HRC. It was also recently revealed that other high level State dept Officials were using Bill Clintons server also.
DeleteQuestions remain weather Boehner will use his leverage. It is quite certain that Obama's justice department will sit on their hands. Gowdy will continue to do a professional prosecutorial function. It will be up to the voters to decide if they want four more years of Clinton Shady dealings.
My opinion is that HRC should give up the server, lance the boil as soon as possible. If not she will die of a thousand cuts. The other side with at least four Tea Party possible nominees is much more interesting. In twenty months we will have our answer.

DeleteBut don't you see, the playing of the political game demands that she do nothing of the sort. For as long as she doesn't, this gives the mindless mass of both liberals and conservatives something to focus on other than actual issues. Unless someone can make the "potential" legal precedents stick that have been mentioned in another thread, there really doesnt seem to be much downside. If lanced, as you say, the irritant inflammatory process that is Trey Gowdy will simply cause another to arise. Indeed, that is his only function. Still, this serves the Republicans as well because it provides cover from anyone really asking them any salient questions that they won't have answers to. it's nothing more than spectacle until the real race begins.
So Max in your view it is legitimate for our government servants to run a shadow operation. It is OK for those at the top of our administration to set theirbown rules. Is is kosher for these paragons to be judge and jury of their own covert actions.

Something that does exist really doesn't matter as the rule of law is nothing but a facade and words that once meant something mean absolutely nothing with the paper tiger once called congress. Nothing but a rubber stamp for any administration as the executive branch continues to take more power from Congress and the states.
I love it when a plan comes together. The next prez better be a Democon or they will be yelling and screaming as the Republicons do the same times 2.
