  1. At one time, nude was actually a novelty. In today's world where everybody has to outdo each other, Playboy has become kind of quaint.

  2. It was a cornerstone of the "Mad Men" era and ushered in the culture of sex, drugs and rock n' roll. In its heyday, it sold 7 million copies a month. Today's monthly circulation is only 800,000 magazines. Why buy a magazine when you can see anything for free on the internet with one click?

    1. You make a good point, Doc. To throw out an adjacent one, the name thing has happened to news.

We on this site frequently bitch about lousy news coverage. Many of us look for biases but I think it's more about Internet Porn Syndrome. News has become like porn: everyone likes to look at it, but no one's gonna pay for it. As a result, very few outlets actually report anymore. It's mostly opinion & and who Nicki Manaj is feuding with on Twitter.

News, the music industry, and now Playboy are all casualties of the Internet.
