Paul Ryan Will Run For Speaker......If

The election of Speaker of the House is scheduled for a week from today. Paul Ryan has said he'll run if certain conditions are met, including a demand that all Republican Caucuses agree to support him.

  1. This, I think, is a big deal. Not trying to be dramatic here, but this is a big success for the tea party. At a time when Republicans hold both houses, they should be excited to have the power to attempt to lay waste to everything they dislike. Instead, they have made the house of congress so dysfunctional, nobody wants the job of speaker. Boehner yesterday basically said, "Look, someone's gotta take this job". He also promised in the same interview that he would allow a vote to gut Obamacare and basically defund it through reconciliation before he leaves.

It's amazing to me that for such a powerful job, we have someone like Ryan basically negotiating terms as if this was a CEO search. The guy clearly doesn't want the job, at least it looks that way to me. Which goes back to my point up top about the tea party. They don't want government to work at all and they are well on their way to getting their wish.

    1. Their are obviously more than the 40 Freedom Caucus republicans involved or Ryan would have announced for speaker last evening. 40 is a nice round number, sort of like 11 million illegal aliens, that attempts to minimize the true strength of conservative values inside the GOP.

Regardless of who takes the job the gridlock will continue. The enormous debt has to be, and will be reined in. I know max will giggle, and pfunky will pull out her snark, but it's time now ladies and gentlemen. It's time.

19T must be the high water mark or the nation will split into a few factions with entire areas succeeding.

    2. Not sure if you are paying attention William, but Gridlock means your caucus doesn't get anything done either. Most likely, by now, there could have been cuts because Democrats are pussies and are willing to sell out rather than stand for something. But, when your caucus threatens to shut it down and keep it shut down, the speaker ignores the child molester rule and allows Democrats to help pass a spending resolution. I get your passion, but at some point, doing nothing but stomping your feet like a two year old does not get anything done. Just sayin

    3. Budget reconciliation is about to gut Obamacare by 85%. The debt ceiling fight will cause horse trading by the left. Doing nothing as you say is better then continuous spending.

    4. This is not meant to start a pissing match, but I don't believe they are going to gut Obama care. Suppose they do and take away all the subsidies and suddenly dump all those people right back on the states. I took care of a man in his early 60's today who lost his job after 20 years. He's sold his house and downsized his life and the only reason he has insurance is because he is getting a subsidy. He's too young for Medicare. He is a very proud man who is embarrassed to be in the position he is in. He takes his medication exactly as prescribed and he is grateful for the care the office gives him. People like him are exactly the people who will be hurt when and if Obama care is gutted.

this is a serious question William, if his insurance gets taken away, tell me how your life will be made better by that.

    5. I am sure this gentleman and thousands of others like him were left to rot in the streets prior to Obamacare. Don't be so melodtamatic. Charity care and drug companies have always taken care 9f the less fortunate.

Oh my Lord how did we ever exist prior to cradle to grave nannyism. A few short years ago one political party without a single bipartisan vote passed this national nightmare. Now the other party has been sustained and placed at all levels of government to rein in progressive socialism. This is what the fight over the speakersship is over. This is why the outsiders are leading to opposition party polls. This is why the stocks of drug companies that made their beds with the devil leftest are depressed.

Less government max. Less nannyism. Stand up and be a man for heavens sake.

    6. You didn't tell me how it would make your life better. I'm not being melodramatic. It's a simple reality that is faced by many seniors today. 40 years ago, people retired and died. Today, we have advancements in many areas that we have not figured out how to pay for. Charity care? This is a bit of a misnomer. Ultimately, the care of the indigent is passed on to the taxpayer one way or the other, but is done so in the most expensive an inefficient manner. Drug companies may provide a single drug. Not saying this isn't helpful, but someone still has to see the patient to prescribe the drug.

    7. It will make my life better by letting charities do what they did for centuries and care for the less fortunate. Allowing the secular nanny State to attempt to take over this role turns peoples brains into mush.

But then again,,it's that what they were after in "1984?"

    10. Lowering the debt encumbrance on our grandchildren will make every one of our lives better. It's called peace of mind.
