Truck Drivers Will Clog The Beltway, Want To Arrest Members of Congress (UPDATE)

Yes, you read that right. On the morning of October 11, conservative tractor-trailer drivers will depart from the All-American Truck Plaza off I-95 exit 98 and head to I-495, clogging the Beltway as part of an organized protest of our country's political leaders, whom they feel are "disregarding the Constitution," according to U.S. News & World Report. The rally, dubbed "Truckers Ride for the Constitution," will last until October 13.
U.S. News reports that the cavalry of trucks will ride "three lanes deep," as they make their way to Congress, to supposedly "seek the arrest of congressmen for allegedly disregarding the Constitution."
During their ride around the Beltway, anyone who doesn't support them will be shut out.
The truckers circling I-495 will keep the left lane open for emergency vehicles, Conlon said, but "everybody that doesn't have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out." The trucks will be going the 55 mile-per-hour speed limit. D.C. commuters who wish to be allowed past the convoy must have "T2SDA" - an acronym for the event's original name, "Truckers to Shut Down America" - written on their vehicle, he said.So far the rally's Facebook page has 555 people confirmed as participating. The Truckers Ride For The Constitution Facebook page, which is promoting a larger, general strike throughout the country during that weekend, has 48,531 Facebook "Likes."
UPDATE: Well this all just got really confusing. According to the Post, Earl Conlan, one of the rally's organizers, tells them that what he originally told U.S. News wasn't entirely true.
The comments to U.S. News were designed to do one thing and one thing only: stir the feather of the mainstream media,” said Conlon, a father of three. “Nothing gets the attention like the mainstream media, like some sort of disastrous threat. I knew it was going to ruffle some feathers. But U.S. News reports that, while they truckers decide they won't arrest members of Congress, the traffic jam is still planned.
DCist reached out to Conlan for a request to comment and will update when we hear back.
Giddyup Go!
ReplyDeleteThe media squashed the news about the 800,000 plus participants of the bikers to Washington.... City police stepped in to help facilitate their drive through when Obama's crew cancelled their permit. It lasted for some 4 hours in and out.... News won't be able to ignore it so much this time I think.... cause its gonna last for 3 days.
P.S. In support of this protest. Canadian truckers are going to drive to Toronto and thousands on facebook (before facebook closed the 'Million Truckers to DC' page have pledged to not drive or purchase anything from the 11-13 th of this month.
As an addition and correction to the information in the article. Facebook has shut down the protests page on at least 5 different occasions. The first one was closed after 85000 follows and the other were quickly closed after some 5000 to 8000 follows..... Guess Facebook isn't all that fond of democracy in action after all.... some community members are just not allowed. The closings by the way, have prompted study of a possible class action suite against facebook for discrimination.
ReplyDeleteWhy they starting so far away. I95 I 495 is exit 157. What's the chances of keeping 700 trucks together and getting them there in time...... and with the shutdown how bad is rush hour. Why not get there at like 4 am and circle the city until about 10. Now that would make a statement. I am glad that the truckers who do nothing but bitch about the price of fuel can afford to waste their time and money on this poorly thought out plan. Researching this further they aren't going to haul freight for the weekend. boo hoo. More money out of the truckers pockets. The truck that don't haul is costing it's owner a lot of money. Yes we may not get our stuff delivered our favorite store on time, and will have to make some minor sacrifices but this plan hurts no one except the truckers. Why is it that everything that tea party supporters come up with is designed to hurt the middle class. As usual I don't live in D C area so I DON"T CARE!
ReplyDeleteIt's called being a conscientious objector rick. We learned it in the 60's. Using passive resistance to get our points across. We've learned a lot from the left about being a pain in the ass. The truckers are just going to abide by the law and take a nice ride around the capitol doing the posted speed limit.
DeleteMaybe the so called DC media will even find time to report about it. But I doubt it.They'll probably report that a few trucks took part just like they did with the bikers. But it doesn't really matter.
1773-2009 The cavalry has arrived.
Yeah the cavalry arrived alright all 25 or so of them. Whoop te do. Most truckers are on a schedule a schedule that determines their pay. This is vital for an independent trucker. You don't show up then the load goes to someone else and your truck sits and it costs you money ( or of course if you are really ignorant you can go circle DC for 12 hours and exacerbate your money losing day wasting 100 gallons of fuel. Of course corporate drivers.... well the corporation won't stand for this horseshit in the company trucks so that would cost the trucker his job. Fizzled out just like the tea parties will do in time. By the way I was on the road all weekend looks like plenty of truckers out their doing their job supplying America with what we need at the precise time we need it.
DeleteAttacks and Censorship
DeleteThe Truckers are not without their enemies, who are keen to discredit them, silence them, or both.
As their campaign goes viral, so goes the media shooting match. The campaign has been directly targeted by George Soros-funded leftwing outlet, Media Matters, who have been busy digging up old Facebook posts and ‘likes’ from personal pages of Ride For The Constitution’s organisers, in effect, waging a character assassination against them.
When running a 21st century activist campaign, one must also beware of deadly communitarian policing, also known as “community guidelines” policy.
Ride For The Constitution’s Facebook page was live only six days when it received 86,000 likes, only to be promptly pulled down by the social network. The same happened with its Twitter account, which was pulled down after only 6 days.
William Martin the real truth is as I said above. Truckers are not stupid except for the few hundred that abandoned their loads abandoned their job and abandoned their families to waste time circling D C on a day they should have been dropping their current haul and picking up something that would send them near home and family for the weekend. You really don't know how trucking works do ya.
DeleteRick, I have often sacrificed a day at work and it's wage gain for an opportunity to attend a Tea Party event and display my support for the priciples involved.
DeleteI don't believe progressives can understand this.

The farmers in our nation, most of which are Republicans and live in primarily Red states, are suffering with the cut off in farm subsidies and loans. Needless to say, the farmers are fuming at the GOP too, not just the truckers. USSNJ
