Many parts of Santiago and other cities saw record low temperatures, with some areas reaching as low as 16.8 F (-8.4 C).
South central Chile faced the coldest temperatures of the year on Monday with below-freezing temperatures expected to continue until Tuesday, according to the Chilean Meteorological Office (DMC).
(Note: The article started out by saying “record low temperatures.” Then it switched to “coldest temperatures of the year.” I don’t know which statement is true. Either way, it certainly doesn’t look like “global warming.”)
Santiago’s lowest temperature of the year came in at 26.6 F (-3 C) in Quinta Normal. Lampa claimed the country’s record low temperature of the year with shivering lows of 16.8 F (-8.4 C). Calera de Tango in the Valparaíso Region clocked in with a low of 25.5 F (-3.6 C).
Longford dropped to 20.5 F (-6.4 C) over the weekend, the lowest in the region. Temuco in the Araucanía Region went as low as 23 F (-5 C), and Coyhaique in Patagonia went down to 20.8 F (-6.2 C).

Traffic was restored on Sunday over Paso Los Libertadores, the mountain highway that connects Santiago to Mendoza, Argentina, after it was cleared of snow and ice, according to the Public Works Ministry’s Department of Roads. The use of chains on tires is mandatory for all vehicles.
On the bright side, Valle Nevado ski resort saw over two feet of new snow over the weekend and 14 out of its 17 lifts remain open despite temperatures of 23 F (-5 C).
Thank God these articles have settled this issue.

Delete"Global Warming" is a term that's been a bit misinterpreted.
ReplyDelete"Climate Change" is a much more accurate description of the effects of "Global Warming" - it's the cumulative change in the Earth's climate caused by the rise in the AVERAGE global temperature. It turns a dry spell into a drought, a gentle rain into a violent thunderstorm, a Cat 2 hurricane into a Cat 5. It's more about extremes in scope & in shifts.
To make the argument that because it was colder in Chile than it was in, say, Anchorage, AK for a few days - that that's the smoking gun that debunks "Global Warming" ... well, I'm no weathergirl, but that's gotta be about the least scientific argument I've ever heard used in serious discussions as examples to demonstrate the non-existence of Global Warming.
"It was colder in Miami then it was in Green Bay for the last two days. See? There's no Global Warming"
