Has the Tea Party Peaked? (This is how to troll)

In this article I read yesterday, the author asked whether the Tea Party has peaked as evidenced by most Republicans looking seemingly less scared of being challenged from the right. What is most amusing to me is that Mitch McConnell himself is actually being challenged by a candidate to the right of HIM named Matt Bevin. There is a little rundown of their spat here. In the ad, Bevin attacks McConnell for voting for tax increases, debt ceiling increases, bailouts, congressional pay raises and (wait for it, wait for it) LIBERAL JUDGES! When the king of obstruction is labeled as being too cooperative, it's hard to not laugh your ass off at that.

The article also mentions that some Democrats are being challenged in primaries as well and as a liberal who has watched Democrats roll over for money as much as any Republican, this is somewhat encouraging. Still, it would be nice to see actual moderates return. What I would really like to see is more Tea Party candidates show up in red states and turn the races into three party affairs. THAT would be real choice and would additionally split the genetically modified (gerrymandered) base of conservative but moderate voters away from the whack jobs who want nothing but gridlock and scorched earth.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about the Tea Party. Ultimately, I believe their path and tactics will lead to nothing but true anarchy where the only rules are, "I did it because I felt like it and my gun is bigger then yours." They are not, however, without principle, and for a brief while, that was refreshing. There is plenty over the years I have heard from Ron Paul that I am in complete agreement with, especially on foreign policy and yes, even on spending. We do spend way too much money and our war waging is bleeding our nation as bad as our enemies. Ultimately, however, that principled response gave way to electing legislators who said bat shit crazy stuff. People like West and Bachman are stunning examples. In some ways, the Tea Party has unwittingly done liberals a favor. Not only has it temporarily driven wedges across the Republican Party, it has at times blocked liberals from being fucking idiots and voting for deals that are absolutely horrible for their base.

I think we've now seen what the Tea Party will bring if they are elected to seats in congress, namely that they will say NO to everything. Time will tell if the rest of the country is tired of that.

    1. Alright, let's examine that Brandt. Under the last Democratic POTUS we had, we had an agreement that no new spending would be authorized without finding something to cancel. We WERE paying our bills under Clinton. We WERE beginning to pay down our debt. To say that me and my asshole democrat friends want spending that isn't paid for is just a lie. In my lifetime, (born in 67) the biggest spenders and creators of debt have been Republican. For whatever reason, you and many who are right of center refuse to accept this fact.

Whether you are right of center or some other special breed of politics, you nonetheless continue to vent your spleen left of center. I just don't get how you are so unable to be remotely objective. To agree with a certain political view is one thing. To deny reality is another.

    2. When Obama took office, the national debt was 10T with a super majority in Congress. Today the debt is 17T and spending has only slowed a little thanks to the House going back to the R's.

As Rollingturd used to say............'nuff said.

    3. The R's had both the house and senate for much of W's presidency and now they are hero's because they voted for an across the board cut to everything because they couldn't find any other way to cut spending? Sorry Gotta, you are basically being a Republican apologist here. The sequester was meant to be a doomsday that forced both parties to be adults and find cuts in spending. Instead, once the hits started to affect air travel, the Republicans signed off on a fix for that problem and went happily about their ways.

The Republicans are only serious about spending when they aren't in power. Again, it's a matter of objectivity. For most of you here, you will ignore reality because you hate Obama as if it's somehow a desire to make out with him if you are critical or honest about what fiscal disasters Republicans have been. I don't get that insecurity.

    4. The reason the Tea Party exists is because both parties are spending whores. We all know that seniors will pay for inflation over and over again, and our grandchildren will be paying their whole lives for debt they never created.

The road to serfdom? I say hell no!

Gridlock the shit out of them!

    5. Your second and third sentences are dead on. The selfishness of people my age and older is stunning. They essentially have convinced themselves that no success they had today has anything to do with previous generations who sacrificed a lot to leave a better world behind. Not many these days care about what they leave behind as long as they benefit now.

  2. The Tea Party is a small group of Americans who have morals and demand results. This group peeked in the 1050's and has been steadily decreasing. As their number have been decreasing inflation, debt, corruption and bankruptcies have been increasing.
