Union leaders say many of the law's requirements will drive up the costs for their health-care plans and make unionized workers less competitive. Among other things, the law eliminates the caps on medical benefits and prescription drugs used as cost-containment measures in many health-care plans. It also allows children to stay on their parents' plans until they turn 26.
To offset that, the nation's largest labor groups want their lower-paid members to be able to get federal insurance subsidies while remaining on their plans. In the law, these subsidies were designed only for low-income workers without employer coverage as a way to help them buy private insurance.
Top officers at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the AFL-CIO and other large labor groups plan to keep pressing the Obama administration to expand the federal subsidies to these jointly run plans, warning that unionized employers may otherwise drop coverage.
So now that even the unions have understood that Obamacare is one big tax, maybe it is time to reevaluate its arrival at a time when the already strapped US consumer sees taxes rising, and has their savings extinguished.
Wonder why employers are going part time like lemmings over a cliff?
Insurers will no longer be able to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. Most individuals will be taxed if they don't carry insurance, and employers with at least 50 workers will face a fine if they don't provide it.

Twinsdad comments... this is the way of the king we have in Washington. The plan is simple, keep the rabble at bay and make the high middle class pay for everything, the upper class can afford ANY tax they have to pay.. This is also the racial part of the blog where I say something stupid, like Obama is a racist and has planned all his life ways to get back at the whites in this country and now he and Rev. Wrong are getting their collective revenge.
Can't wait for the FBI to come knocking...
I guess that my best response to this excerpt from the WSJ article is no response at all,if I should get started I most likely would say some very ugly words all of which would not be very nice.
ReplyDeleteObama,Obamacare, and Unions. All are things on my list of,............This is where I stop !!
Obama considers union employees to be rich. He would PO a lot of middle class workers that don't get this new Union benefit.
ReplyDeleteThe union probably thought they would get a big break after the election. I only give it a 50% chance at best.
Once they unionize the doctors and collective bargain their salaries our care rates are sure to come down.
ReplyDeleteSurrrrre,,,,,
A defender of Obamacare will posit, though, that the goal of Obamacare is to reduce the average citizen's overall cost of healthcare, not reduce the premiums. And that overall cost is, ummm, relative to what it would have been if O-care were not enacted. There is a problem with that last sentence, no?

I wonder Jean at what point does one self insure for catastrophe and lean on the government for the incidentals? Setting 20K aside for a period of ten years, compounded, and negotiating on the black market for care might make a world of sense.
DeleteMight also lead to a rash of single shot suicide when the funds run short.
A few short years until you'll be calling the IRS to set up a doctor's appointment.
I said this before and I will say it again; ObamaCare will never come into being because we cannot afford it. The results will be a broken system with incompetent medical staff servicing a fraction of the people in need. Oh, there I go being paranoid again..... anyone know the words to Kum Bah Yah, - what about you comrades out there ....
