“Vice President Joe Biden indicated there were some 19 areas he was able to identify that the president could take action on through executive order,” the California Democrat told Hardball’s Chris Matthews on Monday.
“He didn’t go into detail on what they might be, but suffice it to say, there will be some considered that will not require Congressional action,” she added.
Obama, during a press conference earlier in the day, touched on his gun policy—which will be revealed as early as this week. His plan will be based on recommendations from Biden’s task force.
Obama reiterated the priorities he emphasized shortly after last month’s deadly shooting in Newtown Conn, signaling what may come next. That includes stronger background checks on gun buyers, limiting access to high-capacity ammunition magazines, and a “meaningful” assault weapons ban.
Anything left legal will be shotguns that are not pump action and bolt action deer rifles. Given you wish to hunt deer (I have no objection) Are Americans such lousy shots you need a 30 round magazine or a five shot auto shotgun? It seems to me that learning to shoot before learning how to read the constitution could be a more valuable pursuit.
Kingston......."It seems to me that learning to shoot before learning how to read the constitution could be a more valuable pursuit."
I do admit that we have an education problem in this country. Rest assured that the 2nd Amendment was not about Deer hunting, but about the right of citizens in This Country to protect themselves from the possibility of being subjugated by devious entities. If you would review history a little I an sure you can find examples of this. Now if you wish to address our violence problem that is another issue, but not a 2nd Amendment issue.
Rojay. Thanks for the response. Afraid the Australian sense of humor often passes over the head of foreigners! I was trying to be a little sarcastic. Live strongest led me to believe Americans could not shoot straight enough without a 30 round clip! As for the second and the rest of the Bill of rights, I can manage to recite the second without reference to the printed word. I wonder however about the 5th and its use in debates, much license appears to be taken with this amendment as we discuss between ourselves the meanings and interpretations of the laws of the country!( Aussie sarcasms again). In all seriousness, the second was certainly a justified amendment and in fact from my study of your history, I very much doubt that there would have been the numbers in favor to ratify the constitution without this particular entry. Now however it is surely time to move on. To a foreigner, the idea of a tyrant rising from the masses is unthinkable and with the government having control of the firepower of the country the logistical problems for said tyrant are insurmountable. I offer the opinion that the gun debate has, to the everlasting shame of Americans of both parties, become a Political weapon. That the people simply go along with the senseless killing of innocent citizens is the reason for my attitude. Others, perhaps for reasons of insecurity in their own masculinity, boast of buying a bigger better more powerful gun than their neighbor. This simply to satisfy their male ego of having the biggest (of anything) Cheers friends, from Aussie
I concur with Rojayalso, it's not about deer hunting. It's about preventing tyranny.
The Germans took the Jews weapons before sending them to be gassed and burned at Nazi concentration camps. Bearing arms is about protection of life, liberty and property, not quail hunting.
A former student opened fire at a college in downtown St. Louis, shooting a school employee and then turning the gun on himself, a Fox News affiliate reported on Tuesday.
Local television showed numerous police going in and out of the Stevens Institute of Business and Arts in downtown St. Louis.
Fox said the gunman shot one of the school's financial advisers in the chest and then shot himself. The gunman was in grave condition, it said.

This is what happens when you hide in the closet without a gun(Jan 4, 2013) FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - A woman is recovering from gunshot wounds after burglars broke into her Fairburn-area home and found her hiding in a closet.
According to the police report, Melissa Burke told police she heard the suspects break into her Estonian Drive home just before midnight Thursday. The thieves first rang the doorbell and when no one answered, police said they went in through the back door. Burke called 911 and hid inside a closet. They found her there and shot her multiple times.
The arguments posted that because someone somewhere was stabbed, we should do absolutely nothing to try to reduce gun violence are just outright stupid. People on this site love to throw around the term "red herring". That argument is a perfect example.
The similar arguments made about medical accidents, drunk drivers, etc, are also nearly as silly.
Btw, with regards to drunk driving, since the 1980s, we raised the drinking age in all states to 21, made the penalties for DUI tougher, lowered the legal BAC level, added checkpoints during big party holidays and events, and made bar owners/bartenders liable for overserving their customers.
Have these regulations eliminated drunk driving deaths? Of course not, but incidents of DUI fatalities have declined 52% from 1982 to 2010.
Though not the only factors, mone could make a pretty good argument that implementing these regulations saved many lives.
Not everything has to be absolutely all or absolutely nothing.
pfunky2222 A good argument and more so since the time we brought in restrictive gun laws here, there has been a reduction in gun deaths of well over 50 percent,as with your road kill statistics.

In Florida a homeless man was killed when another man ate his face. Match that! Let's limit the number of teeth one can have.
DeleteMick It is not a matter of matching anything but rather the "Gun Debate" is mostly on the "Gun",or for that matter on any weapon.
DeleteNow lets talk about the issues behind the acts.
Mexico has STRICT gun bans.
ReplyDeleteCommoners are forbidden from owning them.
So what happens? they die by the thousands as drug gangs fight for territory.
Compare this to the Swiss where EVERY home has firearms. Lowest murder rate in the civilized world.
In gun related deaths Switzerland, among developed nations, is number 2, behind only the U.S.
