  3. n another thread Mick has suggested that the opinions stated here are not representative of mainstream America. I can accept that assurance because to believe otherwise would be to accept that your country is full of self opinionated bigoted fools.

I have previously posted the latest stats from the Australian Department of Statistics showing the opposite of the claims made in the movie. There was no response from readers to these figures but I am not sufficiently naive to believe that the rednecks here accept them.
I took the time to view the movie twice this morning. I would hope that even Americans would not be swayed by the "facts" purported to be true. This is an amateur production for the Gun Lobby in America and has never been seen in Australia. What the movie did not say, and an argument should include all the facts, is that there has been an increase in stabbing attacks since the gun laws came into operation.
Just as in your Country, there were only a small number of households with a firearm; in most cases only one or at most two occupants of the home could use the weapon. What we saw then, and to some extent now, is a very small minority making a large amount of noise. A new national political party was formed and such was their popularity that they have been deregistered for lack of activity! They were once re-registered but attracted only 0.28 percent of the national vote. In the state New South Wales,as an amalgam with the fishers party. they hold three seats currently in the Upper House.
I do not know what else I have to do to make you understand your problems. To attend the causality section of a major hospital may show you the end result of your irrational testosterone fueled urge to cover your own inadequacy. I used to be an x-ray tech in the Navy, I always volunteered for work in hospital x-ray departments overseas; Olongopo, Hong Kong and Singapore were fertile grounds for education in the results of gun violence.
Perhaps desperate ills need desperate remedies. I am idly wondering whether it would be an interesting experiment to lock Angi and Roj in a room with no food and water and the only provisions a .38 handgun between them!!.

    Cheers from Aussie

  4. so f'in stupid. maybe the Koran should remove references to Mohammed as it is offensive to me.

Muslims want to remove all references to Christianity as they find it ALL offensive. Every capitulation to Islam is a victory for them and a loss for us. By capitulating to them, that is exactly what they want as it weakens Christianity and strengthen Islam.

  6. William.
You are fond of using quotations which bear little reference to the discussion. To disarm a nation would indeed be ridiculous, it was the path followed throughout history by invading nations.
In no way do I support the policy of disarmament of your people. Sporting shooters, vermin control workers and farmers together with other interested members of the public should not be prevented from owning a firearm.
My contention is that the firearms permitted to be held in private ownership should be limited in type, capacity and size.
Arms should be stored safely in lockup storage and all arms should be registered with the authorities.
The sporting shooters do not require semi automatics, either rifles or 12 gauge shotguns. If the shooter requires these weapons to hit a target, he needs to either give up shooting or learn the art properly. A five shot magazine at worst and single shot rifle or double barrel shot gun at best is all that is necessary.
In a further post here you make the claim that “I've noticed that the Aussie's weren't complaining about our guns during the decade of the 1940's.” From this I assume you infer that America used your guns to protect Australia during WW2. Should you mean something else I would be interested in reading your explanation. Just for the record, Australia agreed to the general conduct of the war in the pacific led by the Americans who if you remember, were engaged in a war with Japan. Australian servicemen fought side by side and in many areas in New Guinea, led the assaults. No William, it was a joint effort by all the allied nations and furthermore an effort which simply had to succeed if the world was ever to return to some semblance of order. If, at this late date you want us to be grateful, perhaps you could start by being grateful for all the bases established by the US on Australian soil since 1942 and continuing to this day with the Marines permanently rotating through Darwin. We welcome them because Australia and WE have various agreements which allow such interchange of forces between our countries.
In conclusion, my interest in America was fostered by short interchange positions during naval service when I would spend a week or so in a US ship and an American would serve on an Australian vessel. I did notice that the Navy blokes were a lot easier to get along with than many of the red necked loonies I have encountered on blog sites.

  7. It's interesting Kingston how you have resorted lately to using the term redneck and other similar pejoritives. Listen up, we are not a bunch of loonies, we are not bigoted fools, and we are not going off half cocked. Each and everyone I have had the honor to meet in the Tea Party movement is a thoughtful and educated person. What separates us from many of the lemmings that inhabit our land is that we have come to the realization that big government has overtaken our basic foundations.

    We have peacefully marched.

We have worked the political grass roots to begin reforms.

We have put ourselves on the front line, in many cases absorbing scorn from the likes of you, and many of our fellow citizens and so called leaders.

We continue to explore remedies and realize that the struggle is of a generational nature.

We are committed for the long term.

We know this won't be easy. Retaining Freedom is never easy.

As for your view on our 2nd amendment I have stated on these pages that our perspectives are so askew that a legitimate debate between us is near impossible. You continue to relate the arguments to hunting, and various side issues. I, on the other hand, relate our basic right to bear arms to that of our protection from tyrants. As to limiting this right, well, we leave that to our individual States to determine, or we used to leave it to them prior to our over reaching Federal government and their never ending attempt to assemble their inner circle power base. This concentration of power in of itself is enough to require a counter balance, and that's one reason our 2nd remains sacrosanct.

As for your explanation regarding our joint effort to eradicate the Japanese from your sphere of influence. We could of course have fought Japan from different positions. We could of course have fought Germany from different positions. It is what it is. We did what we did. You did what you did. The facts remain, without our massive ability to produce and distribute weapons and military troops there is ample proof that a good portion of your continent would be speaking Japanese. The bases you mention would be inhabited by Japanese not Americans. Your country's disarmament would have not been by your own choice.

We will retain our 2nd amendment right, thank you very much.

    1. Rojay, I appreciate that King, Mick, and Max further the debate. For to long our side has neglected to engage for various reasons. At this time their side has forgotten how to debate because they have assumed for decades their voluble positions to be beyond approach.

They are finding out now that they need to confront, belittle, shall I say it, destroy their opponents. As I said above, we are committed for the long term.

      Thanks

Just as well as in the short and medium term you are consigned by most as being on the lunatic fringe. I note that in the recent federal elections two "valuable" members of the tea party group were lost to the congress through lack of public support and in one case through foot in mouth disease.
I joined this group to pursue my studies of American History and American Politics. The level of debate is such that I shall henceforth observe from the sidelines and engage only when I see something worth debating. I enjoy debate but William Roj and Angie, particularly Angie, have done much to destroy my belief in the ability of correspondents here to debate anything sensibly.
For the present, goodbye from Aussie

    1. It looks like you're following Carol and quite a few other leftist's out the door. Goodbye and good luck. Another academic elitist standing above the fray, terrified of engaging in the debate of our time.

If being consigned to the "lunatic fringe" by "most," whatever that means, is equal to standing for our time honored freedoms I plead guilty as charged.

1773-2009 Kingston, I wish for you that one day you shall remove you monarchy and live in freedom.

    2. I hope you stick around, Kingston. I enjoy your posts and I think it's important that we self-obsessed Americans hear a perspective from a "furiner", particularly from one who's as well-read and as experienced as yourself. Obviously it's your choice, but if you go, know that at least I valued your contribution.

And as far as DI (William) and Rojay go, well cut them some slack. I've been exchanging/debating/flaming/joking with these guys for years going back to MW. At their core, they truly are gentlemen who, agree with or not, really do passionately care. We all get a little obnoxious and testy with each other (see the above post). That's just part of the game.

As for Angie, well, it's best just to ignore her - especially if you're seeking discussion or debate. Her M.O. is to state her opinion and then call those who disagree with her even slightly vile names or she wishes a horrible death upon them. She got banned from MW (then came back as "Precious") cuz she doesn't play well with others. She's damaged goods and never really adds much to the discussion anyway ...

There's a lot of folks: Twinsdad, louman, Carol, Stormcloud Brewing, livestrongest, TheScott, etc, that haven't been posting much lately. Max has dropped off a bit. Heck, I haven't been posting much lately. But I do enjoy reading them when they do.

I hope you continue to contribute ...
