Romney in 2016

After months of insisting he was not interested in running for president again, Mitt Romney now says he's keeping the door open.

“We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race,” the 2012 Republican nominee told the New York Times Magazine when he was asked about the possibility of seeking the nomination in 2016. “We’ll see what happens.”

  2. Could be the first American candidate to lose the presidency to a black guy and then a woman.

    Historic ...

  3. Think that doofus will get "ROMNEY" tattooed on his face again? (Google it if you don't remember what I'm talking about)

  4. Tattoo removal chain Dr. TATTOFF offered to remove it for free, an offer Eric Hartsburg originally rejected, telling POLITICO earlier this month, "I still love the ink and I am a man of my word and will keep the tattoo for life."

But then he heard some of Romney’s post-election comments, most notably his claim that the president won reelection because of "gifts" given to various constituencies. "It stands not only for a losing campaign but for a sore loser," Hartsburg said. "He’s pretty shameful as far as I’m concerned, man. There’s no dignity in blaming somebody else for buying votes and paying off people. I can’t get behind that or stay behind that."

As a result, Hartsburg changed his mind and decided to accept Dr. TATTOFF’s offer.

Turn it around and you already have history. You have your first black President and barring WW3 or a male Monica Lewinski, you are a sure fire bet to get the second leg of the equation come the next Presidential election. As a matter of some interest, Benghazi does not even get a mention in the media here. Is there mush coverage in MSM in America at present?

  6. King, Trey Gowdy has the schedule of these latest set of unnecessary hearings scheduled to go deep into the 2016 election cycle. The Repubs have to keep this fire lit to have any chance of beating Hilary and they know it. But most of America is uninterested in the 8th investigation into the matter which is highly unlikely to find any new information and highly unlikely to sway many votes. The repubs need to realize it's over. 7 previous times THEIR committees have found no wrongdoing on Hilary's part.

    The Associated Press
    WASHINGTON —
The Republican chairman of a special House panel on Benghazi charted a course Wednesday for his investigation to stretch deep into a 2016 presidential election that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton seems likely to enter.

Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina vowed to pursue the facts wherever the lead him. Opening his committee's first public hearing since its establishment four months ago, he stressed the thoroughness of the task ahead, not the need to reach immediate conclusions.

"Given the gravity of the issues at hand, I am willing to risk answering the same question twice rather than risk not answering it once," said Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor leading Congress' eighth investigation of the deadly Sept. 11, 2012, attack in eastern Libya.

Congress is still seeking documents from the Obama administration related to the attack, he said. More witnesses are being interviewed and individuals who've participated in congressional investigations will be questioned again. The special investigation was created to "find all of the facts, and I intend to do so fully," Gowdy said.

The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed in Benghazi when militants stormed a U.S. diplomatic post and, hours later, fired on a CIA compound nearby. The incident became immediate political fodder given its timing in the weeks before President Barack Obama's re-election.

Some Republicans argue the military held back assets that could have saved lives and that Obama and Clinton lied to the public about the nature of the attack.

Democrats deride the interest in Benghazi as a right-wing effort to keep talk of scandal fresh and harm a potential Clinton bid for the presidency. They say notions that U.S. forces were ordered to "stand down" during the attack or that Clinton played a direct role in security decisions are fantasy.

Seven previous congressional investigations failed to settle the matter.

    ric,my thanks.
Now I believe it is becoming more and more crucial that important news from around the world is given exposure through news outlets. It used to be the case that American news delivery was top of the list but sadly this appears to have gone the same way as spats and wing collars.
The Benghazi affair has apparently decayed into a sordid enquiry designed to embarrass the Dems and by extension the chances of HRC of becoming your next President. This is not simply repeating your opinion but the general view of people across the spectrum of political allegiance with whom I correspond.
On our government owned National Broadcaster yesterday, much was made of an appearance at a Congressional hearing of your Director of the Secret Service where she appeared to be bullied and belittled by elected congressmen. By our standards, this was bullying at its worst and those of us who saw the episode were appalled. I note this morning (our time) that the Director has resigned and this does appear to show two sides of your legal/Political system. I understand there were certainly grounds for disciplinary action but there does not appear to have been a transparent enquiry. A star chamber appears to have been invoked for the hearing yesterday and although the correct result may well have been obtained, justice was not seen to be done by the rest of the world.

Sorry about my late reply. With regards to my comment, my tongue was place firmly in my cheek.

As far as MSM coverage of Benghazi goes, well I think the broadcasters on FOX are contractually obligated to mention it at least once as day and, of course, it's all over the right-wing blogosphere.

As for the rest, it's only mentioned in reference to the silliness of it all at this point after 13 hearings, 50 briefings, and 25k documents released on the subject. In Not Right-Wing Land, the term "Benghazi" has replaced the term "Birthers" as the punchline when referring to the totally irrational rabid Obama/Clinton haters.

Most at this point view it as a cynical get-out-the-vote ploy by the Pubs to ensure the base turns out in November. "Benghazi Fever" will likely die down after the Midterms and be back with a vengeance if Clinton runs for POTUS in '16.

  10. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie had begun to assume a party leadership role before a traffic scandal tainted his brand. Major questions persist about former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's commitment to the 2016 contest. And the rest of the potential field features conservatives, such as Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who have yet to demonstrate widespread appeal.

That leaves Romney as this season's strongest draw for Republican midterm candidates battling for control of Congress.

    1. And Doc, if Christie does run, "Trafficgate", another pseudo-scandal will re-emerge to gin up phony outrage to get out the vote for the Dems. And the beat goes on ...

    2. The repubs would never nominate Christie. Too Liberal.
Probably the same scenario with Bush, too liberal.
They didn't want Romney last time, he would have a long uphill battle. Huckabee is probably the best they got he is a little more to the center then the clown patrol but not much.
