  5. Deleted due to error of fact. Should read:
Is this a Congressional enquiry and if so what is the (political) make up of the committee? If not, what is the political makeup of and authority conducting the investigation? If there is a bias (in either direction) can the result of any deliberations be accepted by the US people? I am somewhat jaundiced at present having read Ricks latest post on electoral fraud.

    2. Although William lauds the opening questions on security, that is because he doesn’t understand the difference between an embassy and a consulate. The Republicans keep referring to the Benghazi complex as an embassy but it was not it was a consulate and there is a major difference in how they operate and the security detail attached to each. The Benghazi consulate did ask for additional security, but they did not ask Hilary Clinton for that. It’s not how it works. The consulate was under the command and control of the ambassador in Tripoli, the only embassy in Libya, Chris Stevens. Chris Stevens himself denied the request. It wasn’t Hilary’s or Obama’s call to make.
The major difference between a consulate and an embassy and their security force is this, Consulates do not have the ability or the authority to produce classified documents. Embassies do. Therefore embassies are typically guarded by a detachment of US Marines who are stationed on the embassy grounds. Since consulates contain no sensitive material it is common that they are guarded through contracted local authorities and this was the situation in Benghazi. Admiral Mullen was asked during the first day if Hilary Clinton had personally inspected the security of the Benghazi Consulate. What an asinine question. The U S has about 300 embassies and consulates throughout the world. No secretary of State has ever visited each one individually to inspect the security. It’s not in the job description of the secretary of state. They have many many other things to do. There is a book out here in the states written by a couple of the CIA Agents who responded from the secret CIA operation in Benghazi. In the book they claim that they were in fact delayed by the station chief but he did not appear to be getting orders from higher up. They believe he acted alone because he did not want his secret operation to become public knowledge. After 20 minutes these guys disregarded his order to stand down and went to the consulate without his permission. These are the so called new witnesses to the event. The new information.
This is already smelling like the witch hunt that it is. The republican party so fears that they cannot beat Hilary Clinton in 2016 that they will continue waste taxpayer money on this nonsense. So much for the tax savers huh? They don’t want to save taxpayers a dime. They only want to call the shots of how taxpayer money is spent. Just another FOX NEWS Circus piece to dis-inform some more voters. Hey can we send that scumbag Rupert Murdoch back to Australia. PLEASE!

    3. ric, you have listed the Select Committee members, not the Accountability Review Board that was hand picked by State.

" the State Department announced on October 4, 2012 an Accountability Review Board "to examine the facts and circumstances of the attacks."[276] Four members were selected by Clinton and another was selected by Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper. "

You remember Clapper, the guy that said that they wouldn't "knowingly lie" to congress.

    4. Former Obama Official: That Benghazi Accountability Review Was Not Independent

      by
      Bryan Preston

      September 17, 2014 - 11:18 am

Today’s House Select Committee hearing on Benghazi was short of fireworks or revelations. But former Obama Homeland Security official Todd Keil was asked directly whether the State Department’s Accountability Review Board, which was hand-picked by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was as “fiercely independent as she and members of that board have claimed.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Keil “What’s your overall impression of the ARB report?”

Keil replied, “Ambassador Pickering referred to the ARB as being ‘fiercely independent.’ In that same hearing, Admiral Mullen admitted to Oversight and Government Reform that he was reporting on ARB proceedings to staff of the State Department, outside of the precepts and requirements of being a member of the ARB.

“I don’t think that fits anyone’s definition of being ‘fiercely independent.’”

"the vaunted “Accountability Review Board” (ARB), did not even bother to interview Mrs. Clinton despite her pivotal roles in (a) the appalling security lapses prior to the terrorist attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans; (b) the administration’s response on the night of the attack; and (c) Obama officials’ fraudulent claim that the attack was caused by spontaneous reaction to an anti-Muslim video, rather than by entirely predictable jihadist terrorism."

    6. Yes William I listed the current crew of naysayers who are wasting more of my money. that was Kings question.
      (A) security lapses. Those would have been the concern of Chris Stevens. He was the ambassador of the country. He repeatedly denied the Benghazi consulates requests for more security.
      (B) The only stand down order given was by the CIA station chief without direction from above. he was protecting his operation.
      (c) On September 11,2012 after a video insulting the prophet Mohammed was released by a US citizen with backing from the radical Baptist Minister Terry Jones, he who is fond of publically burning the Koran, 11 embassies across the Middle East and north Africa came under siege. Embassies under siege 09-11-12 Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iraq.
Add to that the consulate at Benghazi. The captured leader of that attack, Abu Khattala has even stated that the event started as a protest against an American film depicting Mohammed negatively.

My thanks, from what you have both said, it appears that yet another smokescreen is underway to influence the mid term election results and to give whatever political leverage is available to the side with the most persuasive mouthpiece.
What I have written above could easily have been taken from any of several "investigations" here at present. We have a process known as a Royal Commission which equates closely to your Congressional hearings. One of the major differences is that we have no fifth amendment to claim!
Currently there is a major enquiry into the building and construction industry and the possible misuse of Union funds and influence. This enquiry of course was set up by the current right wing government and it is designed to weaken the power of the Unions and to make them more accountable to their members. Unions here have in recent years been found guilty of very serious crimes and in fact several members of parliament, both state and federal have been tried for various offences or are waiting for charges to be laid.

    1. Parents of Benghazi victims: We've been left in dark
Oren Dorell, USA TODAY 9:22 a.m. EDT September 20, 2013

""WASHINGTON — Parents of two of the four men killed in Benghazi last year testified Thursday before a committee investigating the incident that Obama administration officials have failed to answer questions about the attack despite pledges to keep them informed.

"No one in the government has told me anything," said Patricia Smith, the mother of Sean Smith, whose body was the first one found at the diplomatic compound in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. "Everything I've found, and I mean anything, I found by going on the Internet and asking questions."

“I remain hopeful there are still things left in our country that can transcend politics,” South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, the chairman of the committee, said in his opening statement in a Capitol Hill hearing room. “I remain convinced our fellow citizens deserve all of the facts of what happened before, during, and after the attacks in Benghazi and they deserve an investigative process worthy of the memory of those who died and worthy of the trust of our fellow citizens.”""

When he arrived, Maxwell says he observed boxes and stacks of documents. He says a State Department office director, whom Maxwell described as close to Clinton’s top advisers, was there. Though the office director technically worked for him, Maxwell says he wasn’t consulted about her weekend assignment. “She told me, ‘Ray, we are to go through these stacks and pull out anything that might put anybody in the [Near Eastern Affairs] front office or the seventh floor in a bad light,’” says Maxwell. He says “seventh floor” was State Department shorthand for then-Secretary of State Clinton and her principal advisers. “I asked her, ‘But isn’t that unethical?’ She responded, ‘Ray, those are our orders.’ ” A few minutes after he arrived, Maxwell says, in walked two high-ranking State Department officials.""

    1. "A new report from discredited investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson baselessly suggested State Department staff removed damaging documents on Benghazi instead of turning them over to the Accountability Review Board (ARB) for investigation. But Attkisson's claims have been denied by the State Department and are based solely on speculations from a disgruntled employee after he was disciplined for his "lack of leadership" and engagement by the ARB.

“Disgruntled over being "the only official in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA), which had responsibility for Libya, to lose his job," Maxwell spoke to The Daily Beast in May 2013 in an attempt to "restore" his "honor." Maxwell, who had filed official grievances regarding his treatment, expressed anger that Mills -- the same staff member Maxwell speculated was involved in hiding potentially damaging documents -- "reneged" on a deal to eventually bring Maxwell back to the NEA after his leave."

"Maxwell was interviewed by our committee, the Oversight and Government Reform Committee," said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland. "He was called by Chairman Issa as a witness. And he never talked about this. He had plenty of opportunities to do it. But keep in mind, we have allegations seeming to come out every week. Mr. Schiff just talked about the three contractors, who also have been interviewed, and suddenly they come out with these 'stand down' allegations. But again, Mr. Maxwell did not bring those allegations to our attention when we interviewed him extensively. Extensively."
