Some members of the audience objected to Cruz's message of standing with Israel. The potential 2016 presidential contender told the crowd amid the jeers, "I am saddened to say that some here are so consumed with hate." That statement prompted more boos, and one member of the audience can be heard saying, "speak for yourself," according to a video of the event.
Cruz abruptly ended his speech.
"If you will not stand with Israel, then I will not stand with you. Thank you and God bless you," he said, and then walked off stage.
Toufic Baaklini, president of In Defense of Christians, the organization that hosted the Washington gala, blamed the interruption on "a few politically motivated opportunists" who "were made no longer welcome."
Supporters jumped to Cruz's defense, taking to Twitter, including conservative talk show host Mark Levin.
What I love about this story is how Cruz stood by his beliefs instead of waffling, like most politicians. I'm beginning to like this guy more and more.
ReplyDeleteNever to late to join the Tea's Mick.

Ralph Nader stood by his beliefs too, so did Dennis Kucinnich, Alan Keyes, Christine O'Donnell and scores of others. They don't get elected nationally and that's probably for the best.
DeleteIt is too late to join the Teas. They've gone from a libertarian limited government group who believed in competition to just another group of far right, white Christians, who want to remake the country in the image of something that never existed to begin with.
Thank you for your analysis and conclusions.
DeleteLet's not stand for anything. Let's just exist in the ether. Oh? Obama already has that position staked out you say?
Funny how candidates left, center, and right continue to attend our little inconsequential meetings. So funny.
I voted for Ross Perot when he ran. Nader is often blamed for Gore's loss, but I didn't vote for him. I voted for Palin, and her running mate, whatever his name is. Maybe I'm an idealist, but I try and vote for the best candidate, even though they have little chance of winning, and regardless of what party they are affiliated with. I am always impressed by a candidate who states what he or she believes and stands by it, even under pressure. I guess I'll just stay an independent William.
ReplyDeleteToo bad our congressmen never seem to stick with their convictions when they get to DC.
DeleteMiddle east Christians are still Arabs and you see the whole Israel thing isn't just about Muslims. It's about all Arabs. Had Ted Cruz had any kind of foreign policy knowledge he would have known that. He related Christian to, a concern for Israel. But those Christians are Arab first, then Christian.
