Terms of Service.... ? I did't think we could do that in our Country... or can we

GoFundMe Denies Page for Baltimore Police Charged in Freddie Gray Death

A group of Baltimore police started a GoFundMe fundraising page to help defray legal costs for the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, but after only 40 minutes the web site pulled the page claiming it violated the its terms of use.

The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police set up a page initially called “Support Our Officers” but ended up tweeting only an hour later that the page was pulled down “without explanation.”
Before it was pulled down, the FOP explained what their page was meant to do.
The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #3 has been overwhelmed with the enormous generosity of people from around the world. We have received many requests to open an online account that will accept monetary donations for the 6 officers who have been wrongly charged in the death of Freddie Gray. All monies collected will be used to assist our officers with their living expenses during their unpaid suspension. as well as to help defray their legal expenses. We thank you, in advance, for your continued support.
GoFundMe, the crowd source funding site, recently changed its terms of service to prevent people who have ended up on the wrong side of the law from being able to raise donations. The terms were re-written after several Christian companies raised a startling amount of money to help defray legal costs forced upon them by state-sponsored court cases aimed at denying their religious expression.

Isn't 'Terms of Service' really... really close to I refuse to serve you because I don't like what you stand for? And even if you are general in your refusal... isn't their still 'innocent until proven guilty?'

I wonder if it turns out that the only one found guilty is one of the black cops...

  2. It didn't claim to pull the page for "Terms of Service" It pulled it for "Terms of Use". Without reading the terms of use how are we to know if the site was within their stated rights to pull the page. Maybe the cause was against the policies of the funding site. Funny how you guys are all for the rights of everything in the world except when it doesn't align with your narrow views

  3. And the cop facing the most serious charges, the driver of the van is in fact black and is facing charges of 2nd degree murder. Obviously it is not a black/ white issue but an abuse of power issue as it has always been. The media has inserted the black/white issue in these cases.

  4. First of all… the article clearly states… terms of service While the link shows a page that show ‘things that are not allowed, I cannot, atleast without registering, find any page defining find any terms/conditions of use/service.

According to the link it states provided in the article, it says: Campaigns in defence of formal charges or claims of heinous crimes, violent, violent, hateful, sexual or discriminatory acts.

Kind of got away from that innocent until proven guilty approach to life…

I was only pointing out that if a web site can arbitrarily post various terms and conditions upon which it will serve you, then it seem quite correct to me that a cake shop should be about to clearly say “We will provide no Cakes in defence or support of gay or polygamist relationships”… and if not, why not?

This policy change is clearly about something they feel strongly about No? It is a policy which excludes people who have done nothing wrong No?

This policy will of course come back and bite them when one of their liberal friends need help… but then again, all they will need to do is quickly change the rules again….

What can I raise money for?

Most people use GoFundMe to raise money for themselves, a friend or loved one during life's important moments. This includes things like medical expenses, education costs, volunteer programs, youth sports, funerals & memorials - even animals & pets.

That said, we're always amazed at all the unique ways people use GoFundMe to raise money online. The possibilities are endless!

I would have to say that monumental legal bills by a government that appears hell bent on crucifying these people by passing down an indictment faster than they could possibly look at all the evidence would qualify as one of life’s important moments…

    1. It was reported last evening that in the rush to charge the cops at least two of them had incorrect details on the paperwork. Service went to the wrong address to totally unrelated individuals.

I can understand that Friday night can be a big party night in town and the authorities were concerned about more rioting. But basing the forever change to these cops lives on party night is crazy.
