Of Course Their Is No Liberal Manipulation Of Public Education

Obama biography, required reading, tells fourth-graders that white Americans are racists

Some parents in Dupo, Ill. are not happy that a biography of President Barack Obama is required reading for fourth-graders. They say the book contains a host of controversial elements, not least of which is that it casts white Americans who disagree with Obama’s politics as racist.
Fourth-grade students at Bluffview Elementary School were instructed that they would be tested and graded on the book’s contents, reports EAGnews.org.
The book, called simply “Barack Obama,” is published by Lerner Publications. The author, Jane Sutcliffe, appears to specialize in these kinds of biographies. She has written similar titles about Jesse Owens, Ronald Reagan, Sacagawea and Milton Hershey.

The kerfuffle about the book originally bubbled up through a Facebook page called Moms Against Duncan (MAD). The group actively opposes implementation of the Common Core curriculum.
EAGNews notes that the Obama book is part of Scholastic’s “Reading Counts” program and an acceptable title under the Common Core State Standards Initiative, which attempts to standardize various K-12 curricula around the country.

You can view a sample of the bio on Google Books.

The book continually identifies Obama on a first-name basis. It bizarrely blames the evils of television for learning ways “to be black” that are hilariously caricatured, stereotypical and negative.
When Barry looked in the mirror, he saw a young black man. But he didn’t know how to be black. And no one was there to teach him.
He decided to act like the black characters he saw on TV. He started acting tough. He cursed. Was that what it meant to be black?
As he got older, he started smoking and drinking. He tried drugs. Was that what it meant to be black?
It’s not clear if Sutcliffe purposefully conflates being a black American with “acting tough,” cussing, “smoking and drinking” and doing drugs. Sutcliffe is white, according to her Amazon.com author page.

The Obama biography goes on to charge that white Americans did not want to vote for Obama because of his skin color. However, it neatly explains, America’s 44th president was able to bring everybody together in blissful unity.
But some people said Americans weren’t ready for that much change. Sure Barack was a nice fellow, they said. But white voters would never vote for a black president. Other angry voices were raised. Barack’s former pastor called the country a failure. God would damn the United States for mistreating its black citizens, he said.
The book then recounts Obama’s March 2008 speech about race.
“Barack decided it was time to speak to Americans about race,” the next paragraph pedantically explains. “Black people and white people were too often angry with one another. All people were going to have to work together to solve the country’s problems. Only in that way could Americans make a more perfect United States.”
It’s not clear if the book’s author believes the United States is now “more perfect” some six years into the Obama presidency.

Since when is an unproven figure taught in our schools?  Will history really find this man to be a net positive to America?  To the world?   And what lesson of respect does it bring to the office of the presidency when a sitting president is identified to such young minds by his first name?  This book was copyrighted in 2010 - we certainly had little information about him at that early date to write a definitive book on this person as a real rollmodel.  If the book wants to address race, that is fair enough but to do it in such a backhanded way is disingenuous particularly when it suggests that whites did not vote for him because he was black....   My ASS, I didn't vote for him because he was a flaming liberal.... I wouldn't have cared if his mother was Connie Chu and his father was Edgar Winters.

And liberals just shrug and wonder why their is so much opposition to the Common Core Initiative.

But of course... if it is a common core written by democrats.....  Its all right.

  2. I went to the source for this article and I think it was a hilarious publication. Sort of like the "Onion" if you have ever read that magazine. Obviously, this article on Obama is an April Fool's prank. You had me spoofed with your "racist" title. Thanks for the laugh- USSNJ

  3. Here's my anti Obama story: I hate Obama because he has gotten gas prices so low, my energy stocks are all dropping in price. I like it better when:

We can all blame Obama for gas prices when they get too high(even though my Chevron and EOG Resources go up when that happens.

When we can blame Obama for not getting terrorists, but that one is out of the window too. He keeps killing all those bad guys with drones and Seal Team Six. Drat !!!

I hate Obama for instituting this awful health care program, even though my kids are now getting cheap coverage for two more years until they are 27 years old. I also hate it because my sister in law now can get coverage, even though she had cancer and had to suffer because she had a pre- existing condition that did not allow her to find coverage prior to Obama Care. Darn it !!!

I hate Obama for getting unemployment down from 11% to just 7%. Even if he gets it to less than 1%, he is responsible for not doing enough to create jobs.

I hate Obama for not completing the Keystone Pipeline even though there is a glut of oil in the nation now that America is the "new" Saudi Arabia for oil/LNG. Now I am mad that Obama is pushing for more drilling which will mean more pollution due to cheap gas.

I don't like Obama's stance on automatic weapons and handguns, but we have to thin the population way since people are living longer and that costs SS and Medicare more in the long run.

I hate Obama for shutting down the government which cost Americans $24 billion dollars after the dust finally cleared. What's that? The GOP Congress did that? Hmmph, must have missed that one.

Should I go on? No way. Obama mess ups could take me all night and I would only become angry just thinking about this mess we are in. Hey, pass me another Johnny Walker Blue on the rocks while I try to wonder how I will pay for my Tesla Roadster. Obama is killing my budget. - USSNJ

    1. Known as the U-6 unemployment rate, this “real” unemployment figure, seasonally adjusted, includes the unemployed “plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons ….”

The U-6 rate captures the fuller picture of people who are willing and able to work, but cannot find a job.

Since President Barack Obama has been president, the  U-6 unemployment rate rose from 14.25% in January 2009 to a high of 17.1% in October, November and December 2009 and the same rate in February, March, and April 2010.  The U-6 rate did not fall below 14% under Obama until March 2013, when it hit 13.8%, the same rate for October 2013.

Nothing to write home about here…..

“When we can blame Obama for not getting terrorists…”

Yep! With the NDAA you could find yourself at the wrong end of a drone or a group of agents that whisk you away in the night… never to be seen again? What is that you say? “I don’t do anything wrong and don’t have anything to hide”. A lot of people under the Stazi thought that they were good citizens too because what might be good in today’s administration just might be have you in hot water with the next. And you should worry about that because the NSA ‘knows’ who your friends are even if they aren’t as well known to you as you might think and the IRS knows a lot about you too. Today it’s the tea party… who will it be tomorrow?

“I hate Obama for instituting this awful health care program…”

It’s a shame in America that we even need to umbrella our children at age 27! It is nice though that you appreciate you government sticking a gun up your neighbor’s nose demanding cash to fund your sisters medical care…. Medical costs I might add that spiraled out of control as a direct result of government meddling with EMTALA and the countless regs and laws that protect the pharma industry in the US to the point where Americans pay more for medicine that anywhere else on the planet! After screwing up the medical industry, it has moved on to the insurance industry and supporting monopoly enterprise, it extracts its incompetence from the tax payer…. I am so glad you approve.

Things are so great that more people now than ever have turned to food stamps to supplement their ‘new’ low pay jobs…. Or just decided to scam the government by claiming disability ‘cause it pays better than all of those newly created jobs.

And yet he wants to add another 11 million to compete with Americans already out of work or in low paying jobs… but the left has a cure; Demand that those who make a decent living supplement the rest with a higher minimum wage…. Great!

We still import more oil than we produce and as you could see above, gas prices ain’t anything to brag about… I will give him credit for one thing though… In this booming economy that HE has created ... Consumptions has gone down considerably. Perhaps by the time he has added HIS glut of voters… er … I mean ..immigrants to the cause we can get that consumption down even more…. Oh Yeah, I for got all that investement in worthless alternative energy companies…. Good stuff huh?

You know, after Britain got rid of guns, their was a spat of knife crime…. Their was actual, considered talk about making all knives no long than 3” blades.. No steak knives, no butcher knives, no meat cleavers. But they came to their senses and realized that no matter what you out law, if someone wants to harm others, they will. I think what brought them to that realization was a guy that tried to blow up the Edinburgh airport terminal in Scotland with propane canisters…. No more barbeques…

Why is it that almost all of this people are on anti-psychotics and no one sees the connection here.

Assault is a behavior, not a device.

I hate Obama for shutting down the …

Interesting how you give him no blame. The House (you know, those folks we elect to do the actual budget) recommend three different solutions to the impass. 1) bold but in keeping with republican belief that the ACA is no good, wanted to defund it. Perhaps a little ott without repealing the law itself but not outside of the scope of a budget negotiation (What negotiation you ask?) 2) was to delay the implementation of this monstrosity of a law after the White House changed the ‘enforcement’ of the law 19 time to suit its political purpose and then claimed congress had no right to change the funding of the government even though he himself signed the sequester into law which automatically cut programs regardless of previous funding. Well, now we see the results, a product not fit for purpose and a roll out that absolutely should have been delayed if the president wasn’t so cocksure and prideful. 3) for the very government that created the law to use it themselves… we all know how far that got…

      Should I go on?

By all means… keep jabbering away if it makes you feel better about your life but the fact is that life isn’t as good as it appears….. like the mirror on you car that says “things are closer than they appear”
While I don’t like many of his policies, it is the overall government I take issue with. It is far to powerful, intrusive and ineffective for our country to grow. It needs to shrink in ways that most democrats and indeed republicans can even fathom. The federal government now is like a big corporation. It has lost its ability to be nimble and responsive to opportunity and it is a drag on growth… and is the antithesis of a small agile company that, while it may make mistakes, has much more ability to spot opportunity, react and grow.
