Just let me copy that....................

What's up with Rand Paul? Ut Oh this might not be good. The last presidential aspirant
accused of Plagiarism, and admitting to it was none other then Vice President Joe Biden in 1988. He didn't dare to run again until 2008. This is not good although the right is much more forgiving of this type of thing. Spin city going on and Paul has found a permanent home to spout off his stolen text at breitbart.com. Cool beans.

from CBS news.com

Reports continue to emerge that Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has a habit of using other authors' work in his own speeches and writings without giving them credit. The latest: an op-ed Paul wrote for The Washington Times on mandatory minimum sentencing borrowed verbatim from an article on the same topic written by Dan Stewart and published in The Week a week before Paul's own piece.
The overlap was originally reported by the website Buzzfeed, which found several copied sentences that outline the growth of the prison system, criticism of mandatory minimum sentencing, and tell the story of a Florida man named John Horner who was subject to a mandatory minimum penalty after selling some prescription painkillers to a friend who turned out to be a police informant.
"We've always known that the audience of The Week consists of smart, busy people who want to feel even smarter, including a lot of people on Capitol Hill," Bill Falk, the editor in chief of The Week, told Buzzfeed. "We'd like to thank Sen. Paul for his endorsement."
In an interview with the New York Times Tuesday, Paul admitted that he had "made mistakes" and said new procedures were being put in place to make footnotes available "if it will make people leave me the hell alone."
"In the thousands of speeches and op-eds Sen. Paul has produced, he has always presented his own ideas, opinions and conclusions. Sen. Paul also relies on a large number of staff and advisers to provide supporting facts and anecdotes - some of which were not clearly sourced or vetted properly," said Paul senior adviser Doug Stafford in a statement to CBSNews.com. "Footnotes presenting supporting facts were not always used. Going forward, footnotes will be available on request. There have also been occasions where quotations or typesetting indentations have been left out through errors in our approval process. From here forward, quoting, footnoting and citing will be more complete. Adherence to a new approval process implemented by Sen. Paul will ensure proper citation and accountability in all collaborative works going forward."
Paul also told the Times that no staffers were being fired over the incidents of plagiarism.
Paul has been under fire for borrowing language since MSNBC's Rachel Maddow accused him of citing Wikipedia descriptions of the movie "Gattaca" during a speech at Liberty University. Since then, the list of language copied from other sources has continued to grow, including the revelation that Paul's response to President Obama's 2013 State of the Union address included a line about increasing unemployment rates taken directly from an Associated Press report.
"It's been a footnote frenzy going on. They have looked at my works including all of my speeches which 98 percent of those are extemporaneous. I can't quote everything perfect. I'm not perfect," Paul said to Fox News host Sean Hannity Monday night, arguing that he was the only person being held to such a high standard because of political motivations.

  1. And so much for self responsibility. Although Paul admits to the allegations it wasn't all his fault. The staff hadn't vetted his statements completely. can't the same be said for the president, his staff hasn't given him all the info he needs? But no he is just a liar. These are busy men and they all depend on staff to assist them and provide the info that they need. But my don't we look at them differently. Yeah we do.

    1. rick,

Not exactly the same situation with POTUS, no? When a POTUS speaks, it is HIGHLY important that the statements are truthful. His comments about " . . . . . . keep it. Period" were quite numerous. Possibly his staff kept from him the details. For that long, though? OK, no solid proof, don't use 'Liar'. Except that he then says, on 11/4/13:

"Now, if you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really liked that plan, what we said was you can keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed. So we wrote into the Affordable Care Act, you're grandfathered in on that plan. But if the insurance company changes it, then what we're saying is they've got to change it to a higher standard. They've got to make it better, they've got to improve the quality of the plan they are selling. That's part of the promise that we made too. That's why we went out of our way to make sure that the law allowed for grandfathering."

Lie. Please stop making excuses for 'busy' men. They (should) have the best staff money can buy. It's their job to prep him. Unless, of course, the unspoken admonition is to not tell POTUS something he should not know. That thing about plausable deniability, yes?

Do we look at some differently? 'Yeah we do.'

    2. Come on Rick, you could post anything you want bashing any Pub doing any job in either The House or The Senate... Obamacare is going to stay on the front pages of the rags the MSM hammer out their goo goo baby talk as if Obama is some kind of a God. History will show that Obama will become the worst President in U.S. History. The list of failures will not be balanced by his only major foreign policy success, killing Bin Laden.

      Whoop the "F" e....

  3. The Republicans must really admire Obama, every time one of theirs is accused of some malfeasance they excuse it by saying Obama did it first. My favorite politician is Toronto's mayor. First he was caught in a video showing him smoking crack and then caught in another threatening to kill someone. In both cases he claimed innocence because he was "drunk out of my mind". Now that's a real politician. Why can't our folks be that honest?

    1. Right out of DC's Mayor Marion Barry's playbook. "O" Canada!

    2. William, I forgot about Marion. When I lived in Memphis a lot of the locals looked on Marion as some kind of hero, since he is was Memphis born. He had a good run until his Teflon wore off. Lots of Memphians thought he was framed, despite the videos and other evidence. A truly great politician.

  4. MSNBC host Rachel Maddow created headlines this week when she alleged that Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) had plagiarized a recent speech from Wikipedia, but it turns out the liberal cable news host has been accused of plagiarism herself.

In 2010 on his blog “Open Salon,” Michael Rodgers of North Port, Fla., wrote a blog post titled “Rachel Maddow Plagiarized My Blog!”

Of coarse we would never hold a 'journalist' to any sort of standard when spreading her venom....

While I am not condoning what happened with Rands office, he says that it won't happen again... we will see. I try to leave credits whenever I post but sometimes I don't... it doesn't mean that I am trying to plagiarise material just trying to get my points across as quickly as I can...

We seldom have an honest discussion about the news and the journalist that gather it..... we know that most of it is nothing but partisan opinion.....

  5. "we know that most of it is nothing but partisan opinion....." But TS it is ALL partisan opinion. When I listen to FOX News it's like I am listening to people talk about another country at times. (by the way I am NOT a big fan of MSNBC either) ALL news is partisan, some lean left some lean right, Some are extreme to both sides. We never get the truth from any news source. Those sources on line that are cited here on this blog many think THAT'S the truth but it to isn't. Everyone has an opinion an opinion that pleases them and enough others that there is a financial gain for the site/agency.Everything in our political spectrum is reported in sound bites and sound bites can be arranged to make something said into a whole new statement. Sound bites can be made to mean exactly the opposite of what was said just by the lead in of the reporter. It is why 2 news sources can take the same thing and come up with two different meanings. Truthfully friend there ain't nobody, NOBODY telling us the whole truth and they never had. The whole Rand Paul thing I just had to you know :) but it is a reminder that no one person and no one agency is telling us everything. As politicians go we can trust none of them not right not left not T's none of them. In todays world everything is spun to the benefit of the politician that says or does something, anything for votes anything for power.

    1. The biggest bias that I have found, and I really do try hard to work against it, is myself. I, like everyone else has our own persecutions and as you say, the things that I agree with tend to appeal to my sensibilities but I do try to absorb different perspectives on issues.. Sometimes I change my mind when I am presented with facts I can't dispute.... this is a good thing as it helps me grow within myself.

I think the thing that bugs me the most is the apparent ranker between different political points of view. I'm not talking about the professional ideologues that pull the masses around by their noses. They have a much deeper purpose for being and it isn't the welfare of anyone but themselves... their are acceptions. I am talking about the normal folks that go out and bust their butts for a living. I have never met a person on the left or right who didn't believe that they were honestly trying to make the US a better, more prosperous country but blind ideology stops them from examining the opinions of the other without prejudgement or examining their own in the face of new information. I am no doubt guilty of that myself but I do try.

Anyway, I do try to read a wide range of web sites. I particularly like people who pick apart issues. They may inject their opinion but at least they open up all of the component parts to look at. I have a very hard time listening to the extreme left because I fundamentally disagree that the way they think is good for a society but I do try to listen none the less. I think that the internet, though full of know it alls like me who go so far as to blog everything, contains far and way more value than any of the print or MSM outlets.... MSNBC and Fox are good for bringing up issues that the other side will never talk about.... It may be irrelevant stuff but at least you hear about it and are able to dig a bit deeper elsewhere. .....

  6. Set your 2016 Presidential Campaign on CRUZ CONTROL!

  7. BTW it's absolutely HILARIOUS to see the MSM champion Christie as a CONSERVATIVE! The MSM picked Romney for us the last time. Now they will pick Christie who they KNOW the Left will have a field day with Christie's weight. Time magazine has already called him an elephant and let's not forget all of the other personal smears the left has launched against Republicans.

    1. Live Free,

If the left ridicules Christie because of his obesity, I don't think it will come across very well, no? Clinton isn't exactly svelte, as far as that goes. Very superficial topic.

Are you serious with your statement about Cruz? His being the republican candidate might make you feel good, but I find hilarious the notion that he would have a chance at being elected. Do ou actually think he will attract democratic voters? Think about that. I just don't see it as even worth mentioning, yes?
