The More Things Change...

We have just witnessed an epic battle over abortion in Texas.  We have 2 sides who will argue to the bitter end about who has the right to decide if a pregnancy makes it's natural conclusion.  I realize that passions get away from people and mistakes are made, but you do wonder that if the abortion option was not out there if there would be as much "need" for them.  I would prefer that all sexually capable children be given frank sex education and birth control devices.  It wouldn't end the abortions, but it might slow them down.

I drove by a section 8 housing project the other day and wondered how many of the children who were being raised there would actually grow up to be contributing members of society.  My guess is that most would return there to produce more offspring to grow up in the same conditions, with the same expectations...

The government has delayed major provisions of their health care law.  It seems that even they understand that this thing is an unmanageable boondoggle.  We will have some type of complete government control of health care, just as we will allow the government to ruin every other free enterprise that made our country great.  People have allowed the government to gain this control.  I think this has happened because there has been a perception of unfairness in over-regulation of certain businesses, under-regulation of a few, and outright giving away of government goodies to a very select few.

  2. I originally made a comment on the influence of money in our government, but I decided to say something else. Basically, I reject the notion that our government is this evil, self actualized beast that seeks to enslave us. Every day that I drive on the expressways here in Vegas, or go shopping or go out to eat, I come across an enormous amount of very aggressive people who are rude and carry themselves in a manner suggesting they clearly are not concerned with anyone else around them.

We have the government we deserve and it is no better and no worse then the people we send there chosen with our anger AGAINST some other candidate.

    1. I believe that the intention of government programs are good for the most part. I think that government is asked to identify a problem and implement a solution. Sometimes, it is the right solution. It seems more and more, however, that the solutions proposed and implemented by our government are mostly intended to enrich someone who spends money on lobbying or on getting their candidate elected. There is a reason we continue to support failed social programs.

We do get the government we deserve. It will probably get worse as we continue to isolate ourselves in our homes, read only the news and views that suit our very own view of the world, and communicate only through anonymous typing on a computer.

I appreciate your views on our situation.

    2. I concede that my assumptions of previous generations may be wrong. Nonetheless, we have a rather long list of government programs that benefited everyone and helped contribute to the growth of many as opposed to just a few. We had good regulation like Glass/Steagall and we grew and thrived as a nation despite a progressive tax system that heavily taxed the rich. Now, we've taken away much of that regulation, allowed massive growth of uncompetitive trusts, lowered taxes to the point that many rich pay less percentage then the working class does and we have also rolled back wages, benefits and ability to collectively bargain. And our economy is a steaming pile of crap.

For now, people are buying the bullshit message that social programs caused this mess. My personal belief is that this outlook is not going to last forever.

  3. Abortion is really not a problem in this country, never has been. It is a red herring used by both parties to stir emotions and gain TV time while avoiding the real problems. That's my two cents worth.

    1. Mick,

Abortion is only a problem if you consider the value of a life, I think. Not the monetary value, but I expect you understood that.

Abortion is not a problem Mick? We have aborted over six hundred thousand lives already this calendar year.

Abortion is a red herring Mick? Surely you jest. Please tell me you are joking.

      Please

    3. Ask yourself Mick, why has the black population in our country continued to decline percentage wise?

      Ask yourself and be honest.

Could it be our culture of death has filtered down to the most disadvantaged among us?

      Ask yourself and be honest.

The table on wiki doesn't support what you are saying William. It doesn't show a shrinking population either in total numbers or percentage of the total population. Though you never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever post something that suggests you are concerned about the African American population, I pretend for five seconds or so that you are not posting this just to make an abortion point.

    6. From wiki:
"Controversy has surrounded the "accurate" population count of African Americans for decades. The NAACP believed it was under counted intentionally to minimize the significance of the black population in order to reduce their political power base[citation needed]."

I would contend that the black population has been over counted for decades. Government benefit checks circle the globe chasing down domestic migrants. People long dead collect checks and vote in inner city elections.

Add in your 11 Million or so illegals (I contend this number is at least double or triple that number, but who's to actually know?) and the percentage of black population takes on another dimension.

Do you contend Max that blacks in this country are not a large percentage of the Planned Parenthood abortion market?

Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 5 times as likely as white women to have an abortion

On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

    8. This was your original statement. "Ask yourself Mick, why has the black population in our country continued to decline percentage wise?"

I questioned that statement (and still do) based on what I saw on wiki. I'm not disputing your numbers on the amount of abortions that African American women are having. Nor, do I really doubt that African American women are more likely then white women to have an abortion. Still, that doesn't really support your vary narrow point which is that, in your opinion, abortion is scything down the African American community percentage wise.

Admittedly, I am employing a tactic here which is kind of a favorite of yours, like when you post pro GMO posts. That tactic is to throw shit against the wall and question assumptions in a meaningless way that doesn't really change anything. You oppose abortion and always will and if one of your posits doesn't really hold up, no matter, you have plenty of other shock links and numbers to keep throwing at us.

    9. When facts are thrown against the wall you call them sh--. If you support the reduction in the black population caused by abortion then fine just be man enough to say it. How do you square the fact that black women have so many more abortions based on percentages?

      36 million living blacks.

      16 million aborted black babies.

      An absolute atrocity.

    10. African Americans make up 12% of the population, but account for over 50% of all new cases of HIV.  African American women account for a staggering 68% of all newly diagnosed HIV positive women in the United States.  These women primarily contracted HIV from heterosexual sex.  Now, with that said, 60% of all new aids cases in America will be the result of the violation of Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:27 (men having sex with men).

At the end of this year 20,000 people will die of aids and more than half of them will be Black. Ok that’s about 10,000 Afro-Americans. 1.2 million will die from abortion. 36% of them will be African American. That’s nearly 500,000 Afro-Americans.
