Egypt round two

I haven't watched every news report on this story, but I find something rather interesting here. The people of Egypt, after choosing the Muslim Brotherhood by democratic election, have now begun to reject their heavy handed way of doing things. A pet theory of quite a few on this site is that they are all a bunch a savage towel heads who want nothing in life but death to Israel and the United States. In now overthrowing Morsi, it seems like quite a few people on the street want something much different......like stability and the ability to feed their families. Imagine that.

I have advocated for some time now that the best way to subdue groups like the Muslim Brotherhood is to put them in positions of authority where they will be held accountable for their failures. This obviously will not be the last of the Muslim Brotherhood, but for now at least, this is a pretty stern rejection of their ultra conservative, Islam thumping, ways. It's refreshing to see.

  2. Egypt is a unique case. The military serves as the check and balance and is more secular, unlike Iran who's military is full of extremists. Democratically elected is debatable given the reports of massive fraud, but lets for argument sake say that Morsi WAS Democratically elected.

Morsi became a Dictator when the highest authority of the land (The Egyptian Supreme Court) was stripped of its authority by Morsi. Morsi declared that he had the ultimate authority and that the Supreme Court could not challenge his rules, his laws. That was the beginning of the MB downfall as the MB began implementing harsh Islamic rule/laws.

Obama sides with the LOSERS. Now Obama has to try to save face by saying that the US doesn't pick sides. Uh Yeah, tell that to Assad in Syria. Tell that to Gaddafi.

NO developed country respects the United States anymore except Canada and they don't count.

    1. Live, good first para. You make a nice observation, the military in Egypt is a balance and by most measures, does appear very secular. Your second para is pretty on as well. The rest is kinda bullshit though. Respectfully! LOL

Obama supported having an election and then made an attempt to recognize the winner of that "election" which was Morsi and the MB. Would we have gotten some great benefit by rejecting that result and saying we don't recognize the outcome of democratic elections we supported? This is what drives me batshit about conservatives. They preach for democracy but then reject it when the result isn't what they want. For once, the MB was put into a position of recognition and accountability and they utterly failed. This is a very good thing.

About picking sides though, you have a point. It's one thing to say you support elections and then recognize the winner, but it's another entirely to support rebels in overthrowing a government like we did in Libya and now are doing in Syria. Many of these rebel groups are really just radicals looking to inflict the harshest rules of Sharia on the people. We shouldn't be supporting them.
