Sacred mystery: Blockbuster ratings for ‘The Bible’ confound Hollywood

According to the latest Nielsens, released Tuesday, Sunday night’s telecast of “The Bible,” produced by husband-and-wife team Mark Burnett and Roma Downey for basic cable’s History channel, managed to attract more viewers than anything on broadcast network NBC … during the entire week.

Gosh! What will the MSM do if the masses discover morality again?

  1. Brandt,

I'm posting here instead of back on the Alinski thread because I don't know if you will go back to that one. In any event, I sincerely apologize for ultimately taking such an angry and antagonizing tone in the comments section. I've reduced my postings here because the exchanges frequently drift into very pointless exercises of determining who is most to blame for out problems. As such, it doesn't do me or fellow combatants any good and it certainly doesn't add anything positive to the world.

    Be well,

    Mike

    1. Mike, we are all free Americans here in this blogosphere. If you wish to reduce your posting here that is up to you, I wish you wouldn't. Part of freedom is the thought that one can say the truth, from any perspective, the truth one feels should be heard. When MW closed the blog they knew that the truth was no longer the issue, merely the expersion of values molded by experiences and by the ups and downs of freedom. You see, we can say what we truely feel because we were brought up to think that was the natural way to do things like this, trade ideas, trade perspectives. It's not like our internal perspectives need to change in oerder to satisfy some primordal need to "win" I find that keeping silent is much worse that expersion. All the serial killers in all the countries in all the world have one thing in common, know one knew... no one found out until it was too late, what if Manson was listened to instead of being shunned...

I was fortunate to grow up ineracting with all races, sexual orentations, perspectives, and mindsets, judge not lest ye be judged is my rule. When we "converse' here the conversation is not just to make the viewpoint heard it is to make the bedrock function of a free society work to better all its participants. as you well know I have many political positions that we share, gay marriage, for one, why should a "poltical" veiwpoint control a spirtual veiwpoint. We have much in common, number one is a voice, that you must never cease to use.

    2. Agreed Brandt, people should say what is on their mind and not be silent when they feel outrage. It's more my outlook. When I do things in the real world to help people, though my job or volunteering or something, I feel I am contributing. When I have dialogue here instead of flames, I feel like am contributing something positive. But, when I lose that patience, it's time to step back. We all need to be challenged in our beliefs, and everyone single person who posts, myself included, needs to be deflated once in awhile for taking themselves too seriously.

With a mouth as big as mine, it's not likely I ever fade away from here for long. And I agree with you about MW, they can suck it.

  2. Come on, kiss and make up....

Now on to the discussion at hand.

Could it be that many here in the United States are Christians! Many were raised in Christian homes with with those values and too many have drifted away. That does not mean that they have turned their backs on God. Something like this special is of interest especially those who may of drifted away and are considering maybe.... I think more fall into that category than we realize. Sorry BO, we are a Christian nation....

    1. The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.

      Thomas Merton

When I went to Lutheran Grade school from Kindergarten through 8th grade, this was the message preached to us. Some of the teachers lived this message much better then others. There are plenty in this country who consider themselves Christians, but who do not remotely live the teachings of Christianity. To hate anyone is to reject the teachings.

    2. This is about people showing an interest in Christianity and the secularist not understanding that interest. Maybe the term hate is relevant as the secularist do hate Christians.
