It's funny how soon humans forget what we are mad about. 4 years ago Lebron was the scourge of Ohio and a traitor to Cleveland and it's fans. Now King James returns. I wonder if the people of Cleveland have figured out how to un-burn a basketball jersey. Believe me it is a bigger winning deal to Clevelanders then landing the republican convention. For the Republicans I understand trying to influence the swing state of Ohio. But why Cleveland? Cincinnati is a much better city as is Columbus. and Cleveland is probably the most democratic of the three. All in all at that time of the season (playoffs) the republicans have placed their convention in the realm of say the baseball allstar game as to it's importance in the city they decided on. I other words, in Cleveland nobody cares because the King has come home.
Thanks Rick. I really don't know anything about Ohio politics. I have been to Cleveland once, many years ago, and was favorably Impressed. I was just wondering if it comes down to a showdown between the fans and the GOP, who would win. I know the Cleveland politicians and businessmen are looking forward to the GOP convention boosting the city's image, but wouldn't a winning team do the same? It will be interesting to watch as the drama unfolds.
Mick Ohio is the epitome of a swing state, more so then many states we consider swing states say like Missouri. Ohio has sided with the winner in the last ten elections. 5 times in ten elections if voted Republican and 5 times Democrat. It carries 18 electoral votes so that makes it continually important to both parties.

Right now the Governor is rep John Kasich.
Of the last ten 6 have been repub and 4 democratic. Ohio is full of several large cities which had heavy manufacturing in the past and were heavily unionized. Those are Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Youngstown and Elyria. That's about half the population. The rest is rural and small town. The whole state south and east of a line Columbus to Cleveland is strongly republican with the exception of Athens County which is the home of Ohio University. Western and northern Ohio is loaded with old GM towns so it tends to be Democratic. 8 U S presidents were from Ohio, W. Harrison, Hayes, Garfield, McKinley, Taft, Harding, and Grant., and B. Harrison. Ohio was the home of many of the North's winning generals in the civil war. Grant, Sheridan, Sherman, Don Carlos Buell, Custer, Crook and Rosecrans are all Ohioans. Also the not so good generals, McDowell, Pope, and McClellan claim Ohio as home. It is known as the birthplace of aviation with good reason. Of course the Wright Brothers are from Dayton but their are others in modern air travel. Neil Armstrong ,John Glenn and Eddie Rickenbacker, are the most famous but 25 astronauts over the years have been Ohioans. That's a brief look at my home state of Ohio Mick.
And yes Mick Ohio now has King James returning. He will of course take top billing. I think Cleveland has forgotten they also landed Johnny Football already.
