The DACA Magnet
A recent memo
from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirms that major
“pull factors” for the current crop of illegal entries includes
previously “successful migration attempts.” In other words, the
President’s blatant refusal to enforce the law has, as anticipated,
resulted in the more than 50,000 unlawful immigrants flooding the
border.
Prominent among the administration’s lawless decrees is a program initiated in June 2012 known as DACA: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
Under this policy, Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials
are instructed to practice “prosecutorial discretion” towards unlawful
minors apprehended in the U.S., granting them de facto amnesty.
It is this implied promise by the President that unaccompanied alien
minors will not be returned home that has led to the current influx. Many proponents of DACA have pointed out that, for one reason or another, many of the illegal immigrants now entering would not qualify for “deferred action” status under the President’s policy. This fact, however, neither discourages the immigrants from attempting to cross nor will it prevent the President from granting them DACA amnesty anyway.
The Obama Administration has already exhibited willingness to ignore key qualifications for DACA participation in order to unilaterally grant more unlawful minors legal status.
Congress is now debating how to comply with the President’s emergency funding request to correct a situation that his executive fiats have created. For example, though DACA provisions require applicants to provide “educational information,” officials from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently conceded to Congressional aides that current DACA participants need not adhere to the educational standards when they reapply for consideration this September. As Breitbart explains:
At least 560,000 people to date have been granted temporary amnesty under the DACA program, and federal officials also confirmed that that number is likely to increase as applicants who were not eligible in 2012 because they were not 16 years of age will be this year so long as they meet the other requirements. In addition, DACA recipients cannot “age out.”Given the loose parameters for application approval, and the Obama Administration’s reckless disregard for immigration enforcement in other areas, it only follows logic that residents of foreign lands will illegally enter the U.S. believing they will not be returned home—since, after all, they won’t.
So you divert the fact that corporations move offshore to pay a higher effective tax rate to immigration. Nice! That's it Louman the immigrant made them do it.
ReplyDeleteWhat still can't read Rick?
DeleteThe hidden message which you didn't get which is expected, See what O did in 2012? We have a crisis on the border, it doesn't exist to Obama, I need money, golf anyone? No answers on what he will do to curtail the flood. So lets not talk about the border, let's talk about the corp's not paying taxes, yes demonize business. Golf anyone? Who cares about 1600 rockets hitting Israel. Golf anyone? Who cares Putin is shelling Ukraine. Golf anyone? What a plane shot down when we have a golf game today? As Hillary would say, who cares anyway, what difference does it make.
Have you always had you head so far up the resident democrats azz or is this because it's Obama? Is this what you expect from your president?
Diversion is everything.
Lou,
ReplyDeleteHope all is well. Tis a rare cloudy day here in Vegas. Just got back from a vacation to Chicago, hard to come back to this place. Anyhoo,
I think the premise here is a little disingenuous. While I don't share the same outrage that you do over Obama's refusal to round up and expel every last illegal immigrant, I can't deny the factualness of your point. There is a law, and Obama has said he is not going to prosecute it. The current wave of illegal immigrants crossing the border are not simply coming here because Obama went on TV in South America and said we will take everyone who shows up. These people are fleeing violence whether we reject them or not, they are still trying to get somewhere that is better than where they are. If I lived in such a place, I think I would still attempt to enter a country that says I'm not welcome if I thought there was even a tiny chance I could make it in.
Well, I may be way off base, hope I am, but when I first read about the influx of children from Central America I thought "Someone must be spreading rumors that the U.S. will accept child immigrants". So, who would benefit most from such rumors? Not Obama and the Democrats. Who is trying to make political hay from this tragedy?
DeleteIf you have read up on this problem Honduras drug gangs are kidnapping young girls. We are outraged by this in Africa but not in our own hemisphere? we only are concerned about women and their children who are seeking the safety of our border. Honduras has become a hotspot for instability in Central America yet we stand by and do nothing. These women are trying to protect their children from the outrageous behavior of these gangs. What would you do in the same situation.
DeleteI don't blame the parents for trying to obtain a better life for their children, which of us would not do the same? I do blame the House Republicans for refusing to act to end this crisis. If nothing is done before the next congressional "break" (read vacation), then the cost of dealing with this situation will be double or more than it would be now.

DeleteHey Max.
DeleteRemodeling the 1st floor bathroom. Today got most of the tile in place and the floor is grouted, Forgot how much I dislike construction work. 2 more bath's to go after this and if I live through it, the kitchen. Might finish it by by of the year.
The post is interesting and knew it would get Rick's knickers in a bunch. Probably the major points to be made:
1. How may more illegals can we absorb?
2. Should be give amnesty to those that make it here? Should we allow all of them to bring immediate and extended families?
3. How about the rest of the world who waits as they can't run across the border.
4. As we are a bit light on jobs, what will they do, compete with Americans in the job market?
5. Shall we become a bi-lingual country to accommodate everyone that wants to migrate to the US?
6. How do the states pay for all the services that will be required?
7. As Rick get's his panties in a bunch over healthcare, how do we take care of millions more in poor health?
8. Is this the type person we need to grow our failing economy? More entry level workers.
In any case, another 90+ day, more next week. Really hate summer.
Here's one for you MIck, 3-4 billion to handle the illegals currently here. What's the administration doing to stop the flow? What's Obama doing to Mexico for allowing free passage through their country? What has Obama done to secure the border this week? Last week? Last year? The last 5 years? Why aren't you incensed over the administration not enforcing the border?
DeleteProminent among the administration’s lawless decrees is a program initiated in June 2012 known as DACA: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
As to lawlessness in their countries. What about lawlessness and the killings going on on in Iraq today, why aren't you concerned about them? What about the lawlessness in Ukraine, why are you concerned about the people that want to escape Ukraine? What about the lawlessness in the rest of the world? Should we open the doors wide and allow everyone and anyone to enter the US? Why do South Americans, Mexicans get preference over the rest of the world?
A country without borders is not a country.
sorry lou my knickers are not in a bunch.
DeleteHey Lou,
DeleteTaking a quick break from writing a paper. A few thoughts on lawlessness. I am concerned about the lawlessness in the east as well as what is to the south of of us. I watched Bill Maher last week, and it was fascinating to watch two right of center blast Obama for his weakness in the Ukraine. When pushed about what he should do, one of them said, "Well, what he can do is largely symbolic, BUT Putin is a symbolic guy" On the one hand, they blast Obama for taking military options off the table, yet, they acknowledge that not even Republicans accept an idea of military intervention. The reality is that the minute we commit military resources to the Ukraine, we have taken a side. I disapproved openly of what I believed were acts of war when we launched a hundred million dollars worth of warheads into Libya, so I'm not in favor of it here. Sanctions are slow, but they do hurt and they will hurt if the corrupt MF'n banks of the world don't circumvent them. I reject the argument that WE are to blame for what is going on in the Ukraine. Right of center babble like I highlighted above is just that, it's babble. Putin understood very well after the Georgia incident that the America people, rather than the American president, are the ones who are unwilling to commit to going to war with Russia over their re annexation of former Soviet Republics. This is a complicated issue that is acknowledged as such and most of what I hear from the right is disingenuous at best. As for Iraq, what is there to say? It was a mistake of cosmic proportions to invade that country to begin with and it is ridiculous to believe that there is any solution there other than what previously existed, which is basically that the country is ruled by a vicious, iron fisted but secular thug. Again, what you or I personal want to see is somewhat irrelevant when the country as a whole is not interested in any more loss of blood and treasure.
Looking south, I see something a little different. Our collective penchant for illegal drugs contributes massively to the lawlessness of those countries. This cannot be fixed overnight and there is no REALISTIC solution that I think would please anyone right of center. Obama has already started sending some back on planes, and where possible, these children are placed with relatives in this country WITH the stipulation that they STILL need to face an immigration hearing at some point. Compared to many countries in the middle east, and in Africa, we are fortunate to have comparatively so few people coming here to flee violence that we are directly contributing to.
I have to challenge your assertion to Rick, Obama has done quite a lot. Spending is up sharply, as are deportations under Obama. (http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/2014/04/05/obama-exceeds-million-mark-deportations/7340419/) As I said above, planeloads of people who came here from south america have been taken back and deposited from whence they came (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2692443/Wave-deportations-begins-amid-immigration-crisis-First-planeloads-children-single-mothers-returned-Central-America-overwhelmed-New-Mexico-detention-center.html) You are incensed with Obama, and that's fair enough I guess, but as was shown today, the Republicans cannot even agree with themselves and pass a bill to try and deal with the problem unless they can stuff it with symbolic bullshit that says, "Obama can't do anything despite the fact that we aren't remotely cooperating"
DeleteAs dysfunctional as the Senate is, they can at least still pass the occasional bill that is rooted in reality. The congress cannot. Respectfully, we disagree on this. While I don't condone Obama's use of executive order, I acknowledge that he is trying to do SOMETHING in the face of a worthless sack of shit congress who won't do anything because Boehnor doesn't have the balls to let his non-whack job Republican base pass bills that require a fair amount of Democratic support to overrule the Tea Party contingent. Obama continues to lag behind all other presidents in use of executive order, but this, and what I just mentioned, are completely lost on most which is to say they simply don't care.
Why don't citizens of the United States flee our country to take advantage of all the free shit that Canada offers? It's because it doesn't suck to live here and the only really bad thing that Canada foists on us are their hockey teams (although I have to admit that the Canadian players for American teams are arguably the best in the best in the world). Conversely, there is quite a bit of shit we flush downstream past our Southern border and the people there are trying to come up above the drain. A belief that we can simply seal our border and end the problem once and for all seems very unrealistic to me. The solution, to me, involves a sensible plan that slows the influx as much as possible.
Your claim of more deportations has been proven false.
DeleteIn a stunning admission before a House Committee panel on Tuesday, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson admitted that the Obama Administration has been artificially inflating deportation numbers. While the administration has claimed a "record number" of deportations, earning Pres. Obama the nickname "Deporter in Chief", Johnson admitted that they have been counting border apprehensions that are turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers as deportations.
During a House Appropriations Committee hearing, Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) said to Johnson, "Under the Obama administration, more than half of those removals that were attributed to ICE are actually a result of Border Patrol arrests that wouldn't have been counted in prior administrations."
Johnson responded, "Correct."
Jessica Vaughan, the Director of Policy Studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, has been arguing that actual deportations have declined under Pres. Obama. In her research, she says that if you count all removals, including those done by ICE and Border Patrol, then the Obama administration averages 800,000 removals per year. In comparison, George W. Bush would have removed more than 1.3 million illegal aliens per year, and Bill Clinton would have removed more than 1.5 million per year.
Vaughan also found that if you examine deportations from enforcement efforts by ICE, the number declined by 19 percent between 2011 and 2012 and was on track to decline another 22 percent in 2013. Further, the total number of deportations in 2011 was the lowest level since 1973.
