DENVER (CBS4) – They’re calling it the next giant leap for mankind — putting people on the surface of Mars. It may seem like science fiction, but for a Netherlands nonprofit, it’s fact.
Mars One is the project that plans to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars with crews of four departing every two years starting in 2025. But buyer beware, it’s a one-way ticket.
In Denver, just shy of her 24th birthday, Elena Finley may be one of those first Mars settlers.
“Definitely the fear is there, but it’s definitely still a risk that I’m willing to take,” Finley said.
She is one of 705 finalists being considered for the trip. Over the past year Mars One took in more than 200,000 applications from around the world for those who want to leave Earth forever and start a new life.
Boulder may require businesses to recycle, compost
Consultant also says city should consider mandatory trash service for homeowners
Edwardo
Sanic, and Jeff Wiggins sort through cardboard while working to
bale the material for shipment Tuesday at the Boulder County Recycling
Center. A consultant's report says Boulder should require businesses to
recycle — and food-related businesses to compost — and the city should
consider requiring all homeowners to subscribe to trash service.
Colorado resident fights plague, likely source in Adams County
A Colorado resident has come down with pneumonic plague and the
victim's dog, which recently died, also had the plague, according to
health officials.
It's the first reported case of pneumonic plague in a human in Colorado since 2004, said Mark Salley, a spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Officials with the public health department believe the two were exposed in eastern Adams County.
"Plague is spread from fleas on rodents, most commonly prairie dogs" according to a department news release. "People walking in open spaces and trails should avoid contact with rodents."
Yes we also have an activist group that fights to keep prairie dogs from being relocated when they move close to people.
“Do you wanna hit this?” one gentlemen asked the president on Tuesday evening. He even Instagrammed the moment, which gave the commander in chief a laugh.
And it wasn’t even Obama’s first offer of the day. The pool reporter noted that the presidential motorcade saw at least one person holding a sign along the route that said, “Free Weed For Obama.”
Of course President Barack Obama was offered marijuana while he was in Denver — multiple times, even.

Obama in Denver: weed offers

What a great opportunity! We should encourage all our Senators and Representatives to sign up for a one way trip to Mars, throw in the Executive and Legislative branches too.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that should be Executive and Judicial branches.
ReplyDeleteWhat fascinates me more is that there isn't mandatory recycling in Boulder. We have had that here for years on cardboard and about three years for glass at our business. What fascinates me even more is that trash service isn't provided. It is right on our water bill every month 18 dollars for trash pickup. That includes recycling. They pick that up twice a month and we have a separate can not just one of those worthless totes. And it is single stream recycling so it doesn't have to be separated. they take all recyclables except plastic grocery bags and butter tubs. I have yet to figure out the butter tub one guess it's aplastic that can't be recycled I dunno.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I sign up to sponsor the Obama 's and Clinton ' s on that first ship to Mars? Our finest representatives of Earth providing silver seed ad Mr. Young would sing.
ReplyDeleteOh what I would give to have this foursome cooped up together.
When Hilary becomes president she will have the best chief of staff in history laying right next to her every night. What other president has a spouse that has been there done that.
ReplyDeleteSad that Hillary is the best the democrats has to offer as a candidate. Reminds me of another party with their lame candidates. With luck is she's elected she will develop Alzheimer's in the first 90 days.
DeleteThen she will be just like Ronald Reagan won't she. Bill can start running the show like Nancy did.
DeleteOnly problem is Bill will be as senile as Hilly.
