Let's see what the takers are up to this week

The incredible GDP map that shows half of U.S. output is generated by a few cities

This is an incredible map. 50% of GDP comes from orange areas, 50% from blue.

  2. Oops the so called takers are producing 1/2 one HALF of America's economic output. Yes study this map and those of you who need it get out your geography text books. I see Houston and Dallas in Texas, Atlanta Ga and Phoenix Arizona. Everything else is in a blue state or a swing state. How can this be. Aren't those supposed to be the people who vote Democratic just for the hand outs? Looks like they are working pretty damn hard.

    1. GDP includes, wait for it, wait for it, all government spending.

Medicare, medicaid, welfare of all types.

Imagine the big orange spots are major population centers where the bulk of government spending occurs, not to mention the remaining manufacturing we haven't given away.

A bit misleading isn't it Rick.

p.s. LA, San Fran, Wash DC, NYC, Chicago, Detroit, imagine that one, Seattle, Portland. Missed those to make you point I assume.

    3. Sometimes Rick your own partisan views shoot you in the foot.

Besides of course the facts given above we must also remember that the northeast is the home to almost all of the banking and insurance sector. With 10% of the GDP it is the largest single sector in 'business'. A sector that is double in size with respect to GDP than it was at the start of the great depression.... A sector supported by an industry written and democrat supported Dodd-Franks Reform bill....

    4. One more little tidbit about your gdp chart... Also with respect to blue state greatness... have a little study about Delaware and how it is home to 50% of the corporations registered in the US... Kind of like a little Cayman Islands right down the street from the banks and right up the street from the 'law makers'....

    5. At louman no I didn't miss them it is also a geography lesson since you all think your so much adept at it then us blues but my friend you pass barely.

    6. @ louman if that accounts for so much, Government spending, then where is Albuquerque-Los Alamos, it is the highest per capita in government spending/receiving. @ TS Our whole economy or most of it is service and finance. The companies locate where they do for a reason usually comes down to quality of life and worker pool. In the northeast I guess we can take out the quality of life it is a cesspool of humanity. Where is America's largest bank located? Hint it ain't NYC.

    7. @at Louman if it all about government spending why isn't that belt of red states, You know the ones that lead the nation in govt assistance orange. Just some questions for you all to ponder since you obviously have all the answers.

    8. Perhaps because the masses of people do not live there. Do they collect a larger percentage of welfare than NY? Using percentage of population, yes, real numbers, no. It's still in the cities.

Look at you map again, really think Detroit is a prosperous area of the country contributing to the GDP in a positive manner?

Look at spending, Obama is a low GDP percentage spender, reality, 7 trillion in debt. Same applies doesn't it.

Los Alamos, population 2010, 12K residents. A billion per resident would get them a dot maybe.

You just don't get it, use real numbers instead of percentages. Keep pushing your hatred of conservatives. Keep pushing your hatred of the RED states. Your divisiveness is what Obama and the progressive agenda is all about. Us vs. them.

    9. Auh... of course you are talking about Charlotte based Bank of America. The one who made a rather dubious acquisition of New York base Merrill Lynch. An acquisition that showed just how weak its balance sheet really is... if the truth be known.

As for corporations locating in Delaware.... it ain't cause its a unionised state.

    10. Although Delaware is a unionized state in it's manufacturing base the reason to locate in Delaware is totally it's lax tax and corporate laws. But more importantly Delaware offers a small population and access to the biggest markets in America. But let's get it straight TS. Incorporation in Delaware doesn't exactly mean that your company has any greater presence in Delaware then a mere P>O> Box. In my career I have worked for a couple of Delaware corporations who's corporate offices were no where near Delaware. It's kinda like being a business Based in the Bahamas now isn't it really TS? Has nothing to do with Unions or anything else. It is a paperwork, filing charade.

    12. And you mention Insurance in the orange Zone. Where are Progressive Insurance and Nationwide Insurance located? I hope we can agree that they are two of our nations largest insurance companies. Hint :It ain't on the east coast.

    13. @ LOUMAN, yes louman Detroit. Detroit is home to Ford and GM the worlds two largest automobile manufacturers. If you'd get your nose out of that rag Consumer Reports that convinces you to buy Toyotas and everything and anything else non American made you'd know that.

    15. I was thinking more along the lines of companies like AIG; head-quartered in New York with affiliates in 130 countries(capitalization is almost 4 times that of progressive).... or the cluster of huge reinsurance companies located in the north-east...

      Delete
    16. sure you were. The top four re-insurance companies are based in Munich Germany, Hannover, Germany, London England, and Zurich Switzerland. The fifth and largest in America is General Re owned by Berkshire Hathaway and operated out of Stamford Connecticut and Omaha Nebraska. # 6 is in Paris, and # 7 Americas second largest is RGA operating out of Chesterfield Missouri. Next is Partner RE based in Bermuda and operating in the US out of Greenwich Ct, Kansas City, Minneapolis, D.C. and S.F. Then there is Transatlantic Re oh wow finally an AIG company based in NYC. Wanna try again?

    17. So to equalized capitalization let's see where insurance cos. located, Progressive, Mayfield Village Ohio, Nationwide, Columbus Ohio, State Farm, Bloomington Hills Ill, Amica Lincoln Rhode Island, oops that's in the blue part of the map, GEICO, Fort Worth Texas, Farmers Insurance Group, Los Angeles and guess what none of them had to be bailed out like AIG did.

      Delete
    18. Oh, were we talking about international distribution of wealth?... No, I didn't think so... and to try to throw AIG up as a bail out and then hold BofA up as a solid bank and try to poo poo Louman about Detroit by trotting out Government Motors.... Please.... stop, your making my head hurt...

Listen, you have already discredited the validity of this chart and your use of it to play the Red/Blue card when you admitted that much of the wealth held by companies and individuals in the northeast is actually made somewhere else making the real wealth production impossible to determine from the chart.

I think that we (Speaking for myself) will now call this thread... Closed.

  3. Are you that much of a dope Rick? Just because wealth is funneled through areas that attract takers hardly means that the takers are creating the wealth.

DC as a wealth creator? DC is a wealth redistributor.
