Here are the latest statistics on the top paying college majors. The engineers win again, especially in the petroleum industry. They don't list medical fields since those are generally postgraduate majors. I had a doctor tell me that any M,D. with a surgical specialty who doesn't earn over a million a year isn't trying. Using a third-party online collection website, Medscape surveyed 24,216 physicians across 25 specialties from Feb. 1 to 17, 2012. Doctors’ earnings ranged from about $156,000 a year for pediatricians to about $315,000 for radiologists and orthopedic surgeons. The highest earners — orthopedic surgeons and radiologists — were the same as last year, followed by cardiologists who earned $314,000 and anesthesiologists who made $309,000.

Maybe the guy I talked to was bragging, he was associated with a large and well regarded medical school.

DeleteWelders are a good example of apprenticed jobs, which can be quite rewarding financially and do not require a college degree.. The average for high school grads is $22,000.
