Syria
It's a Syrian thing, you wouldn't understand
unless you've been in the White House situation room. At least that's what Obama is saying.
I disagree.
Obama wanted to fundamentally transform the Middle East in to some sort vision he created for himself as a child in Indonesia that was not based on fundamental understanding of Islam. As a result, Obama supported the overthrow of dictatorial governments suchs as Egypt and Libya with the obvious outcome that these governments would be replaced with even more radical governments. Now the economies of Egypt and Libya are collapsing and civil rights have disappeared.
Obama supported the overthrow of Syria as well. Now he has awoke to the reality that with Assad gone, extremists and Sharia law would follow. Devout Muslims, intent on overthrowing Israel but now armed with chemical weapons and new modern weapons shipped from the US and its allies. The only option would be to invade like we did in Iraq and install a puppet government. That will never happen. Likewise, the US can't supply enough military support to defeat the combined efforts of Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Hezbollah.
So how does Obama save face? Every red line he draws gets crossed. People do not respect or fear the United States anymore, Obama appears to them to be a paper tiger. Launching a hellfire missile every once in a while in Pakistan is no longer enough to instill fear amongst our enemies. The only thing Obama can do is provide a token amount of arms and support until the rebels are defeated. The outcome is assured. Assad will be victorious. The Middle East becomes even more destabilized. Also, this will be a PR victory for Putin.
Now how long will it be before Iran announces it has joined the atomic age?

The ME is a mess - I do not even know where to begin.... This administration is a failure - I do not even know where to begin... Economically and socially things are falling apart - I do not even know where to begin ....
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line Live is that Americans are going to pay - big time - for this..... and I wish it was only a matter of dollars but it will cost so much more...
You are correct Angie -
ReplyDeleteHey, I just read this. US and Taliban representatives will start Afghanistan peace talks Thursday in Qatar, officials say, marking the start of what the Obama administration says will be a 'complex, long and messy' process.
complex, long, and messy means I f'd up and don't know what I'm doing. I thought that the Middle East apology tours and screwing over Israel would be enough, but it's not. Neither are the billions in bribes paid to Afghani's Paki's Iraq's and Egyptians.
lol... that is about it....
DeleteI heard about the planned negotiations with the Taliban this morning also. Isn't that at odds with the policy of not negotiating with terrorists? And Mullah Omar is still alive, yes?

You all have shit to talk about what Obama has done or hasn't done, but never have any solutions yourself. Nor, for that matter, do you even have anything to say that suggests you even remotely understand who the backers of various groups are and what their intentions are. What you know is that Israel is a shining beacon of freedom in the middle east and that everyone else is an enemy of the United States. Over decades, we have acquired a lot of interests all over the world and defending those interests frequently conflicts with our morals at home.
ReplyDeleteYour post live is fucking ridiculous. Please explain to me why it is in our interest to invade Syria and install a puppet government, which, in your second para, is the only option you claim we have. PLEASE tell me what fucking good that will bring to my life!
With all due respect no one is cheerleading invading Syria.
DeleteNow for solutions -- FIRST we need to get the Hell out of the UN!
You are always so defensive. While it is true that Obama is a POS, it is acknowledged that our problems are not the result or 1 , 2 or even 3 administrations. Obama is leading the way NOW and it is down. Yes he is going to be called on it - so what is your problem....
Max,
DeleteI don't know that invading Syria is in the best interests of the U. S. I also am not quite sure, honestly, that helping the rebels is beneficial, even tho I think their success is not too imminent, yes?
On the other hand, Obama famously declared about crossing a red line. He has waited this long to want to appear to lead? But he was so quick to force the Libyan government overthrow . . . how was that in anyway in the national interest of the U. S.?
Jean
I didn't say anything about invading Syria Maxie Pad.
ReplyDeleteWhat Obama SHOULD have done was NOT campaign for the overthrow of Egypt. Not support the rebels in Benghazi and NOT push for Assad's ouster. Obama should have pushed Syria towards Democratic reforms by pressuring Assad via negotiations AND covert operations but letting him stay in power. But those options were taken away from us by the course of his actions( or inaction as some claim Obama should have thrown military support towards the rebels before they were taken over by radicals although I think that's open for debate as well).
All I'm saying now is that Obama is going to look bad no matter what happens and he can only blame himself for looking like a pushover and a fool.
Angie and live, this is in the second para "Devout Muslims, intent on overthrowing Israel but now armed with chemical weapons and new modern weapons shipped from the US and its allies. The only option would be to invade like we did in Iraq and install a puppet government"
DeleteYou left out my next sentence "That will never happen."
DeleteLet me be a little clearer. The only option IF ONE WANTS A TRUE SECULAR DEMOCRACY in Syria instead of a dictatorship or a country ruled by Sharia would be direct intervention. I do not endorse direct intervention, but that's what it would take to install a Democracy.
DeleteSo if we want secular democracy, we should invade them and install it. Does that not sound completely counter to the idea of democracy? This is what has me losing my fucking mind live. The entirety of your post is one long contradiction that is at war with itself.
Delete"All I'm saying now is that Obama is going to look bad no matter what happens"
DeleteYes, that is ALL you are saying and it's the only fucking thing you ever say.
THat should read, I didn't say anything about SUPPORTING invading Syria Maxie Pad.
ReplyDeleteNOW Karzai is furious with the US for negotiating with the Taliban without Afghanistan and has withdrawn from future peace talks. DUH! Another brilliant Middle East policy move by Obama.
ReplyDeleteI would be furious too. Two groups of people negotiating about the future of Afghanistan and neither one actually represents the country itself.
Slow clap!
(Reuters) - As the Syrian civil war got under way, a former electrician who calls himself Sheikh Omar built up a brigade of rebel fighters. In two years of struggle against President Bashar al-Assad, they came to number 2,000 men, he said, here in the northern city of Aleppo. Then, virtually overnight, they collapsed.
ReplyDeleteOmar's group, Ghurabaa al-Sham, wasn't defeated by the government. It was dismantled by a rival band of revolutionaries - hardline Islamists.
The Islamists moved against them at the beginning of May. After three days of sporadic clashes Omar's more moderate fighters, accused by the Islamists of looting, caved in and dispersed, according to local residents. Omar said the end came swiftly.
The Islamists confiscated the brigade's weapons, ammunition and cars, Omar said. "They considered this war loot. Maybe they think we are competitors," he said. "We have no idea about their goals. What we have built in two years disappeared in a single day."
The group was effectively marginalized in the struggle to overthrow Syria's President Bashar al-Assad. Around 100 fighters are all that remain of his force, Omar said.
It's a pattern repeated elsewhere in the country. During a 10-day journey through rebel-held territory in Syria, Reuters journalists found that radical Islamist units are sidelining more moderate groups that do not share the Islamists' goal of establishing a supreme religious leadership in the country.
Oh Gee, The US canceled talks with the Taliban. Imagine that. The US was trying to negotiate with the Taliban as if they were a government in exile which po'd the current government.
ReplyDeleteAs of this evening talks are back on. The Taliban removed a sign so now they're worthy.
DeleteJohn Kerry should lead our effort so well. After all he supported our surender to the Viet Cong so marvelously.
Just another mileposts along the BO failed presidency.
