Am I supposed to be afraid to post a topic now, is AmPol a target of NSA

Well, it seems that my worst fears have been realized, what say you, Max, The Scott, Mick, Angie, and all that post on this tiny blog, should we be afraid of Big Brother?  I am beginning to get a bit concerned, should I protect us from 1984 and close down AmPol?

Did MarketWatch shut down AmPol knowing something we don't know?

Clearly there are insiders with knowledge that we don't know, is the NSA monitoring this blog, I sure hope not, I'd be the one that gets arrested.....

  1. It's your own fault for letting that stinking Tea Party member reside here.

1773-2009 I hate to say this but, WE TOLD YOU SO!

  3. Are they watching and listening.... could be - probably are - would not come as a surprise. Should we stop posting - absolutely not! When it comes down to negative comments about this administration there are TOO MANY to act against. "They' will be more prone to go after those who pose a real threat or those who are just too easy to screw with - like the IRS and conservatives.

  5. From wiki "Hubris /ˈhjuːbrɪs/, also hybris, from ancient Greek ὕβρις, means extreme pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power."

TD, when I was in my mid 20's and stuffing my brain with Rand, I was convinced the total collapse was imminent. All the stuff that William says here (actually the stuff that William cuts and pastes because he doesn't have a voice) was the stuff I talked in my sleep. What I believed was so certain to happen, never did. IMO, every last one of us on this blog takes themselves waaaaaay too seriously and waaaaay overestimates how "dangerous" we think we are to the establishment.

I'll admit, I am concerned. Since 9/11, the attitude has changed very drastically in this country. We have militarized police departments. We have invested heavily in increasing the governments ability to spy anywhere it wants to and there has been zero pushback by either party. You know from private discussions Brandt that I am noewhere near a communist. Ultimately, I believe in fairness and at the moment, the deck has become very stacked against those not born into economic stability. Most of you on the right here seem to fear a lock down that comes from the government. I fear a bigger social collapse that happens when millions of people feel like they no longer have anything left to lose. We are not there yet.

But to your topic, I doubt the government could care less about a bunch of petulant children yelling at each over mundane issues. We, here, are not changing anything and hence, are no threat to anyone. When Rush Limbaugh is taken away to a reeducation camp, then we know it's serious. Until then, I'd rather live my life.

    1. You are correct Max... we do give ourselves a bit to much clout in the ability to effect change with our own voice. What really gets me upset are those who, every-time a subject like this comes up will say " Well, if you aren't doing anything wrong, what are you worried about"..... enough of those kind of people and your opinion however small becomes a megaphone in a church. My fear is that we, over the last couple of decades have suffered a sever collapse if the rule of law and with the governments ability to, through your internet, email, snail mail and phone calls and mobile gps information paint a pretty clear picture of you and ALL of your associates is down right frightening... because as innocuous as we might be today any position expressed on forums like this well be better than any gun registry...

    2. Max, you miss the point, somewhat, it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog(s)..

If you haven't guessed by now I'm fed up with this so called government we are ruled by, they all suck, they've made all the wrong moves in "the war on terror" and the entire lot of them need to be replaced. They are not Dems or pubs they are all just life long politicians with no real jib skills to work in in the real world. I recently listed all the jobs I worked, just for fun, and the number was 27. I've been employed for 34 years at something, always giving 100% to my employer. These assholes that have made us all an NSA "big brother" hockey puck need to all be fired!

The Star Trek crap, are you kidding me! American diplomats get killed and not offending Muslims is more important than telling the truth, there are enough scandals in this admin. To keep TMZ on the air telling them for "four more years".

What happened to "the truth" anyway, leaders are supposed to lead by example, if I were to lead my twins the way the assholes in Washington lead, they'd be in jail before they get out of high school.

I'm sick to death of all the wasted taxes, all the agendas, all the lies. When did politician start being spelled criminals? I think the post Nixon governments have all been to concerned with false images and not enough concerned with the truth, how can we get away wit "x" replaced do the right thing.

If there was somewhere else I could go to get away from all this shit, I would, but as bad as it is the twins are better off here in Zona than just about anywhere, world wide.

    3. No, I don't miss the point, I just don't agree it's so dire. I think where I diverge from quite a few of you here is that focus on the government is not the center of my universe. I don't think government can save us, but neither do I think that evil flows from it as if it is the fountain head (see what I did there William) of the river Styx. Quite a few of you, IMO, choose to view the government as this beast that denies freedom. You don't, however, accept that government is still elected. Naïve as it may be, I continue to come to places like this to appeal to people. If we want real change, it needs to occur closer to home.

As much as I come across as a loud mouthed douchebag here, I put effort into what I believe. I volunteer my time and I work in a profession that contributes as little as possible to the aggression that abounds. I also believe my dietary choices contribute to less aggression. I still contend, the government will be no better and no worse then the attitudes that pervade society. As a nation, we are a pretty angry bunch right now.

    4. Max... You will agree with me will you not that their are a large percentage of misguided people who fell into trouble and ended up in prison only to come out bitter, angry and much of the good that they had when they entered was ruined by the experience.... Our elected officials 1) are picked for us to elect 2) have a very difficult peer pressure induced existence to get along.... once you assume the roll of getting along its probably pretty difficult not to take the next step and if you are their for any length of time... you become the teacher.

I learned alot particularly in this last election cycle about the power of the political party to sideline anyone who doesn't toe the party line and then when you have a candidate that can stand up against both parties.... their demise is ascertained...

Washington is corrupted.... from top to bottom and the message that they put out to each an every American citizen when they fail to prosecute a CEO or allow a police officer to walk in a senseless killing or indeed promote the idea that no American can be trusted with the IRS, NSA, FBI etc etc etc..... you start behaving like the unwitting prisoner or the starry eyed junior senator....and voting accordingly....

  6. What, me worry? Seriously, the threat of government controlling our lives is way overplayed. Instead of hubris, we should be thinking paranoia, a condition of irrational fear, driven by imaginary threats. I recall many posts from years past on MW which told us to be "very afraid" because the whole of society was about to collapse any day now. I remember reading the same things 60 years ago. Still waiting.

    1. Collapse... nah... nothing so apocalyptic.... just slow, irrational, unprovable, blind progressive change where the embrace of diversity eventually become a path for sameness and individuals are merely a cog in a mechanism where government is the spring and 'intellectuals' hold the key.... and for those who misunderstand the meaning and importance of liberty a process that is painless or even euphoric...

    2. Scotty, change is inevitable, what we must ensure is change for the better.

    3. Mick,

Ensure change is for the better. There lies the rub, yes?

I tend to share TS's implication, that it is slow, unprovable, and inexorable a march to loss of individuality and, more importantly control to a central authority.

  7. One unsuccessful shoe bomber and now everyone boarding an airliner has to have their shoes inspected. A dozen or more loonies shoot and kill little children, former students, fellow workers and random passers by and we do nothing. That scares me.
