Florida City Votes to Cut the State in Half

With sea levels rising some of South Florida's most expensive real estate is already in danger from coastal flooding. Alarmed officials in the city of South Miami have voted to adopt a resolution which would cut Florida into two states, Florida and South Florida. Their main concern is the current government which refuses to acknowledge the problem. The dividing line would be North of Tampa. There is a precedent, West Virginia separated from Virginia over secession. Here is the story:

  1. Good idea. We should divide New Jersey into North and South also. Colorado and California should become multiple States. New York should be split. Virginia should split off the liberal Northern areas around DC into a separate State, maybe adding them to DC itself and grant them Statehood. I'm sure the people of Missouri would love to see the Saint Louis area have it's own representation. Porto Rico, and the American Caribbean islands should be told to vote up or down on Statehood.

50 is not a magic number of States. We could use 20 or more Senators and another 100 or so Representatives.

  2. Once you lose your republican governor in a couple weeks things will be different. Charlie Crist understands climate change causes oceans to rise. While the state itself can't control that Crist might move to do something to start controlling the inevitable sea rise, or at least what is going to be affected by it.

    1. John Coleman, who co-founded the Weather Channel, shocked academics by insisting the theory of man-made climate change was no longer scientifically credible.

Instead, what 'little evidence' there is for rising global temperatures points to a 'natural phenomenon' within a developing eco-system.

In an open letter attacking the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, he wrote: "The ocean is not rising significantly.

"The polar ice is increasing, not melting away. Polar Bears are increasing in number.

"Heat waves have actually diminished, not increased. There is not an uptick in the number or strength of storms (in fact storms are diminishing).

"I have studied this topic seriously for years. It has become a political and environment agenda item, but the science is not valid."

Mr Coleman said he based many of his views on the findings of the NIPCC, a non-governmental international body of scientists aimed at offering an 'independent second opinion of the evidence reviewed by the IPCC.'

He added: "There is no significant man-made global warming at this time, there has been none in the past and there is no reason to fear any in the future.

"Efforts to prove the theory that carbon dioxide is a significant greenhouse gas and pollutant causing significant warming or weather effects have failed.

"There has been no warming over 18 years."

"Climate expert William Happer, from Princeton University, supported Mr Coleman's claims.

He added: "No chemical compound in the atmosphere has a worse reputation than CO2, thanks to the single-minded demonisation of this natural and essential atmospheric gas by advocates of government control and energy production.

"The incredible list of supposed horrors that increasing carbon dioxide will bring the world is pure belief disguised as science."

In 2010 a high-level inquiry by the InterAcademy Council found there was "little evidence" to support the IPCC's claims about global warming.

It also said the panel had purposely emphasised the negative impacts of climate change and made "substantive findings" based on little proof."

    2. Tell that to those beachfront home owners whose houses are flooding at high tide.

    3. Lot's of reasons for flooding. Hard surfaces covering formerly porous areas. Bays filling in sometimes naturally with organic materials. Land masses sinking over time. Live near the coast and expect water to affect your life sooner or later.

      Climate change is a sham.

  3. William; When I lived in Memphis there was a big sign over the entrance to the Memphis-Arkansas bridge saying "Welcome to the Three States of Tennessee". Tennessee has always been divided into East, West and Middle. East fought with the North in the Civil War, West was with the South. Rick; After the third debate the race is officially tied 45% to 45% . The 10% are either voting Libertarian or are undecided.
