    1. I know what you mean, there wasn't any outrage at all from the right over what Martin Bashir said.

    2. Obviously you don't see the nuance in attitude and delivery between these comments from Martin Bashir...

"I’m happy to be in the midst of so many Asian babes.” And, he added, “I’m happy that the podium covers me from the waist down.” He said a speech should be “like a dress on a a beautiful woman — long enough to cover the important parts and short enough to keep your interest — like my colleague Juju’s.

Bashir had already apologized for what he called “offensive” comments about the former Alaska governor, whom he also called an “idiot” and “dunce.”

“A fat nominee could be exactly what a Republican Party needs to shed its image as out of touch with ordinary Americans.
“Christie’s size would allow him to do something similar with overweight voters.

Mr Bashir had criticized Palin and what he called her “long-diseased mind”.

In response Mr Bashir described Palin as having a "well-established reputation as a world class idiot", before going on to cite the story of an incident where a slave was made to defecate in another's mouth.

      And these by Phil Robertson.

Interviewed for the January issue of GQ, patriarch Phil Robertson was asked to describe sin and replied: "Start with homosexual behaviour and just morph out from there."

He said he could not understand why a man would choose to sleep with another man, instead of a woman.

"There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying?" he was quoted as saying. "But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical".

I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field .... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word! ... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.

Every comment by Bashir was condescending and directly pointed at individual people and in not particularly respectful language while everything in Robertsons comments were from his belief and faith and what he personally experienced... Of coarse if a sentence out of someone other than a liberal contains the word gay, queer, black, slave or any of another couple of dozen words... well that is discrimination... that is hatemongering... that is phobic.

Interestingly enough, Palin's comments about slavery isn't any worse or twisted in meaning than words I have heard here about being slaves to the 1%. Slavery, involuntary servitude and indentured servitude all have a spectrum of definition, but let anyone from the right make a comment about the subject and they are immediately tagged as insensitive and racist.

I wonder what it feels like to work hard all your live, pay off your mortgage, maintain your home well and one day find it taken away from you by the state for the inability to pay your property tax... what is that called?

  2. Liberal assholes rule this nation, I dislike strongly (trying to stop using "hate") what the last six years under a clueless President, with a socialist, or socialism, or even communistic goal for us, " we the people." We are a joke in world politics, a failure in domestic politics, and by the time Obama leaves office he will he destroyed or democratic way of life.

    1. You're trying to stop using the word hate while you spew an entire comment of hatred? That's like saying shit will smell sweeter if you call it dung. Why bother TD?

    2. Refute what I put up, we are overshadowed by the leader of the free world, Vladimir Putin, our own NSA snooping has taken away our liberties, the IRS deliberately fucking with Pub organizations so they can't put up campaign ads, I may spew hate but you and your crowd create hate out of thin air. We're unsafe on our own soil again, we are pawns for the Iranians, because Obama turned his back on Israel from day one, his Secratary of State is a bold faced liar, China and North Korea are running amuck, Fukushima is flooding our oceans and air with radioactivity, AND the egotist in the White House has unconstitutionally rewritten a law that will never work 14 times already, furthermore, you're so loyal to all these loser issues your use of the word hate is moot. This administration will go down in history as one of the most illegal, fraud ridden unconstitutional in the history of this Republic. And you know it, and you hate having to see right before eyes the stumbling bumbling fools in the Senate, which your party will lose next year, destroy that branch of government. All in all your ranting, over all these years and all your hopes that this stumblebum would make things right, you're probably more pissed off over his performance than I am.

    3. Max.......Why in the hell do you as well as most "Liberals" use the term Hate to refer to disagreement ??

      Delete
    4. Rojay, read TD's comment here and tell me that's not hate. Lou is someone who posts disagreement. Many others here just post hate. I disagreed with W Bush, I don't hate him and I didn't post endless comments calling him names. There is a clear difference between hate and disagreement

    5. Max I read TD's comments and postings all the time, yes he is mad as hell,I do the same thing ,and you do as well. I dont take these comments as hate, but they do point to the frustration in our current political landscape.

      Delete
    6. Rojay,

I get the frustration, but without a sense of objectivity, it becomes mindless hate. When I have reached the point of hating someone or something, it is an admission of failure. Put another way, it means I am owned. Through multiple presidents in my 46 years, I cannot trace any direct limitations or contributions to my life to Washington. I've had my days of seething at the government, but the reality is that any happiness in life that I've had has been a result of pulling my head out of my ass and worrying about my own shortcomings rather than the collective stupidity in Washington. I can respond here with anger, which I frequently do, but one thing I never lose is the reminder to not take myself so seriously. We ain't changing the world yelling at each other here.

  3. I have to admit, William kind of has a point here. Or, I probably should say that the person William lifted this from has a point. Liberals perpetually believe (and I'm guilty of this as well) that if they extend some courtesy or offer some validation to a festering asshole, that asshole will someday come around and not be such an asshole. It's wishful thinking. Actually, it's magical fantasy thinking that will never come true. The views of Imadinnerjacket are well known, there is no reason to give him an extra platform.

As for Robertson, well, there is a bit of an irony that fundamentally, Conservative Christians and people like dinnerjacket have some very similar views about women and gay people. It's actually because of liberal thinking that women have become a political force in this country. But, as for Robertson's comments, it just reinforces in my mind what the real problem for conservatives is regarding gay people, namely that conservatives can't stop thinking about what gay sex looks like. Perhaps it's something about a retentive outlook that brings so much focus to the anus? The real beauty of this is that although the liberals get the press for the ruckus, the reality is that it's about the bottom line and capitalism. He's off the air right now because the network fears loss of sponsorship. When millions of Christians who think JUST LIKE HE DOES ABOUT ANUSES, flock out to buy as much DD gear as the can to prove that Jesus really does hate fags, he will get back on the air to claim the moral victory.

    1. Liberals don't extend some courtesy or offer some validation, they force down the throats of anyone else that gets in their collective way, just as Dingy Harry did with the Nuclear option in The Senate. Liberals are the Brownshirts of modern history, it's their way or the highway. Mark my words, over last few weeks the stench of liberals has gotten so bad, well look at the polls and the 40% rating for the President, you just don't get it, real Americans want freedom and they don't want some hand holding, hand wringing nanny liberal to force them, against their will to do anything, period.

    5. I quite agree with you Rick. It is something that the Democratic Party is well aware of and works like hell to capitalize on. Organizations like ACORN, get-out-to-vote, Moveon, Princeton Community Democratic Organization, etc, count on this ‘less than interested’ group of voters to hopefully elevate the representation of the Democratic party to a majority level. While you can point to the religious, haters, homophobe's, anti-women, pro business dumb asses on the right... one thing they all have, misguided or not, well articulated or not.. is an opinion that gets them out of their chairs to vote... unlike the tens of thousands who vote because of a free ride today and the promise of a free lunch tomorrow.

  4. While reading about the "Duck Controversy" I ran across this statement from one of the Lefts own and one who has been very active in Gay rights movement, and is one of the best thoughts of this whole dam thing......

“I think that this intolerance by gay activists toward the full spectrum of human beliefs is a sign of immaturity, juvenility,” Paglia said. “This is not the mark of a true intellectual life. This is why there is no cultural life now in the U.S. Why nothing is of interest coming from the major media in terms of cultural criticism. Why the graduates of the Ivy League with their A, A, A+ grades are complete cultural illiterates, etc. is because they are not being educated in any way to give respect to opposing view points

    1. So you post a lefty comment that kinda negates the premise of this thread? You might be surprised at how many left leaning people really don't give a crap about Robertson, even when he says what he did. Some of us who lean left actually tire of some levels of outrage despite supporting the general cause.

    2. Max,don't see how my post negates the premise of the thread.
      Our Great Ivy League Universities.
      Paglia's point.
Why the graduates of the Ivy League with their A, A, A+ grades are complete cultural illiterates, etc. is because they are not being educated in any way to give respect to opposing view points.

That statement appears to agree with the intended thought of the heading.

      Delete
    3. Well, since he is really commenting on the DD situation rather than the dinnerjacket situation, it's out of context. The premise of the thread is that liberals at universities have a double standard by denouncing DD but inviting dinnerjacket to speak. Paglia is pointing out a failure of ivy league grads to show tolerance and the context is DD. Context does matter. The fact that Columbia would invite dinnerjacker kinda negates what Paglia is saying, but then again, he isn't addressing that situation.

The premise of the thread is one of those fabulous context skipping posts. The two events are not linked in any substantial way, and no mention is made here of Columbia university issuing a statement about Robertson. Paglia is making a decent point that I wouldn't refute, but again, he isn't talking about Columbia inviting dinnerjacket. In the context he gave the comment, which is liberal intolerance towards Robertson, his point is valid. By including Columbia, however, his point is refuted as the school did invite someone who clearly is opposite liberal thought.

it's a nit picky point, but I do have an ongoing issue with points made out of context. Both left and right constantly take things out of context to make a point that is actually false.

  5. For such a religious man Robertson sure doesn't possess much tolerance him self.

  6. Immadinnerjacket is a world leader who actions have geo-political consequences - he may be historically important. Phil Robertson is a hillbilly with a reality show. There's a bit of a difference here ...

First, I gotta snicker at anyone who would be surprised that a guy who lives in the swamps of Louisiana and looks like the guitar tech for Z.Z. Top might express some homophobic views. Lol. Maybe a more interesting question to consider is why anybody would ask Phil's views on such matters in the first place. Maybe he was trapped on purpose? I mean, who really cares what the DD guy thinks about gays anyway?

Second, ask Alec Baldwin if he sees the "hypocrisy of the left" in what's happening to poor Phil - if you can even locate him. His show was shitcanned after five minutes on the air for getting caught using an anti-gay slur. Where were the righties on this site rushing to Baldwin's defense?

What's happening to Robertson is the historical norm - if you're famous and have a TV or radio show that depends on sponsorship dollars and you say something stupid and/or controversial, you will be subject to public flogging, lose some sponsors, and possibly lose your job - left or right. Robertson's just the latest in a ridiculously long list.

Ask Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus, Bill Maher, etc ...

Everything's been politicized in our culture and Robertson's just the latest pawn in our ongoing Gotcha Game.

Why the shock & outrage on behalf of Robertson? Why wasn't there equal shock & outrage on behalf of Baldwin? And why do we care what either of these men say? Neither hold the power to make policy or legislate. They only possess the "power" we grant them.

The point is, it's on us Rojay to shrug our shoulders, say "meh", and pause for a moment to differentiate between the innocuous and the truly consequential ...

who DO NOT have the voice or the outreach that I do.
      well news flash

perhaps your beard would fit as well if you plucked out the
      army of scabies and
bull weevils sequestered deep in it’s sarcophagus of dander and weasel pelts.
      shame on you.

      when the gators and Egrets
      kick you out of their

you need to make serious amends to those you have
      radically offended.

I’m pretty sure YOU were the scattered dross I then used to light a fire and

    5. Rev. Jackson: Phil Robertson 'More Offensive' Than Rosa Parks Bus Driver

"These statements uttered by Robertson are more offensive than the bus driver in Montgomery, Alabama, more than 59 years ago," Jackson said in a statement obtained by ABC News.

"At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law. Robertson's statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was 'white privilege.'"

The release, dated Dec. 23, requests a meeting within 72 hours with A&E and Cracker Barrel execs and urges the network to uphold Robertson's suspension.

Jackson and GLAAD said they believe it's not right for a personality with such a large platform to benefit from such comments.

Not really Rick. These three business below, regardless of their reasons, are all artistic endeavors. None wanted to use their creative expertise but all three were judged to be discriminatory.... Discrimination is a funny thing... everybody does it with just about everything they do and say... you just don't have the freedom to refuse your services ... sounds like involuntary servitude to me.
