George Will Speaks His Mind

  1. So Will has a problem with Bernie pulling a stunt that is truly right out of the Republican playbook, which is make a patriotic stunt. Maybe Will forgot about Bob "Freedom Fried" Ney? Will's criticisms of Trump are fair enough, and I get that Will is indirectly chiding trump supporters as much as Trump. What I don't hear Will asking though is why do so many people who are Republicans support Trump?

Sanders is a communist, and to a Republican, all Democrats are communists. It should not be surprising that Sanders has support within a communist party. Trump, on the other hand, offends the sensibilities of Will, who seems to consider himself quite the judge of what it means to be conservative. I understand that people like Will, and many like him, bemoan that the Republican party no longer has conservatives and they blame "The Washington Insiders" and countless other people. Seldom, however, do people like Will (and admittedly I don't read him all the time) take the actual Republican voters to task for electing such people. I don't need a George Will to tell me that Hillary Clinton is not a top notch Democratic candidate. On the other hand, Will seems to believe that Republican voters need to be educated that Trump isn't really a conservative. Seems there's a bit of a disconnect here.

That may very well be true Mike... but not too many weeks ago an election would have netted Hillary as the next president of the United States... someone in the democratic party isn't getting the same message you are and I have been watching the long list of questionable actions and associations of Bill and Hillary accumulate for a very some 20 odd years.... So... someone needs to convince those straight ticket democrats that they have their eye on the wrong person. Trump is an anomaly that needs to have a spot light shined on but people just aren’t paying any attention at all if Hillary is still a respected... anything.

The labour party under their new leader, Jeremy Corbyn, suggests that socialism will defeat capitalism. I suggest that unless he is truly looking for something akin to the central planning committee of the Soviet Union, what he really means is that State Capitalism should be defeated... if he actually understands what that means.

    2. Trump is nothing but a passing fancy. He'll implode as did Ross Perot. Great lines lacking substance.

Upside for Trump, many Americans are tired of the 2 party system and look for an outsider.

    3. Yeah TS, but the election didn't occur yet and Hillary has endured more than a few dents in her armor. She was not and IMO still is not being supported by likely Democratic voters the way Trump is and at the moment, I think it is the conservatives who have a much bigger plank in their eye than Democrats. As Trump and that epic failure Walker (<---dickhead) have shown, what gets you in the race is a shitload of money and so far, few but Hillary from the left can grab that kinda firepower. Bernie is trying to pull an Obama and get a ton of money from the small donors and hacks like me. But without money, you don't get a big enough bullhorn. That is the state of our process. Still, whereas people may support Hillary to vote against a Republican (likely me) they aren't throbbing like people showing up at Trump rallies. Maybe in the end Lou here is right and Trump eventually falls and everybody goes and votes for the shitty candidate who they don't really like, but at least isn't the alternative and had enough money to outlast eveyone else. If the "scandals" are what turn people off to Hillary, they are dumber than I thought.

As to your final para there, I sorta get it. I feel for ya TS in that you feel this stuff in your bones. You've studied it.You preach it and probably live it. And yet, there has probably been no country, no state, no Kingdom ever in the history of man that emulated your ideals without a single failure. Do people like me make it worse by acknowledging this reality rather than digging in both heels and demanding that the world stop until 100% adherance is attained? Probably.
