Just answer the questions please....

We have a new left/right struggle that is about to commence... The nomination and confirmation of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General.  The left, particularly those who base suitability almost exclusively on race, color or sex have given her high marks and roll their eyes at the prospect of any rejection of her credentials, abilities and ultimately her approval

I think that those running her confirmation hearings should only ask five questions...  An answer to the negative for any one of them without a really substantive answer should set up an automatic rejection.

Would You, based on publically available information, present these cases to a grand jury.

  • Fast -n- Furious.  (Gun running, obstruction of justice, money laundering and criminal conspiracy for starters.)

  • IRS Targeting, most-specifically the apparent intentional obstruction of discovery (that's obstruction of justice, among other things.)

  • The apparent and intentional law-breaking at The Fed, evidenced by Bernanke's use of pseudonyms during his bailout discussions and the clear warning by a Fed counsel member that what he was doing was probably illegal.

  • The apparent and intentional law-breaking by virtually all major US banks during that same time period.

  • The apparent and intentional law-breaking by HFT traders from roughly that time period to today, inclusive.
Of course taking something to a grand jury does not guarantee an incitement but all of these are serious crimes that have cost lives, livelihoods, trillions in savings and purchasing power, as well as investments which were destine to fail because of some of the above.
The return to law and order is an imperative and a good start is with an attorney general who actually believes in enforcing the law for everyone and not just the political agenda of the person who nominated you...

  1. Gowdy announced this evening that they are interviewing people quietly behind the scenes about Benghazi.

Jorden will likewise pursue the IRS scandal.

McConnell and Boehner are on their way out.

    It's a new day.

    1. "Gowdy announced this evening that they are interviewing people quietly behind the scenes about Benghazi."

He announced something they are doing quietly? Right! It's a new day and that is sooooooooo different from the politicized way that Obama handled things.

On the last three bullets, however, I am full agreement of need for investigation. And it won't happen. HSBC was caught red handed laundering money and they were given a fine. I fully believe the banks defrauded America, but it's hard to prove that intent. Our market place, like our political system, is for sale.

Republicans will undoubtedly continue chasing ghosts in the Benghazi and IRS matters with the hope that they will finally find a "blue dress" that can be used to impeach Obama. I don't think that's going to happen. Basically William, same shit, different day.

    2. William, I am puzzled by your next to last sentence. Boehner and McConnell seem to be more firmly ensconced than ever. There is, however, this interesting opinion piece:

    3. Normally I wouldn't line my cat box with Salon but for your benefit Mick I waded through the septic.

Again you just don't get it. There has been no gridlock in DC. Spending hasn't been cut, deficits continue to mount, liabilities of future generations continue to expand, thousands of useless DC workers continue to receive money for little or no effort,,,all while Harry and Obama have done a wonderful job helping us issue less paper.

As things shake out post January '15 new leaders will emerge. They have been there all along but why would they bother to push for position when they realized that Reid-Obama were tag teaming anything proposed to death.

We now have a new day. Democrats have seen the carnage. The remaining few are in two camps, the ideologues who will suck Obama's willie in Macy's window until the day they die, and the others who are scared shit less about their own political futures. And believe me, a scared Democrat is about as faithful as a rat on a sinking ship.

53 or 54 Republicans will very easily turn into 60 as these paragons turn and run away from the lame duck and form an override. The first battle will be royal, once over it will lead to all sorts of compromise from the left.

McConnell will be first to go. Both will not survive the '16 election in their current positions.

    4. 36% voter turnout William. Not one third of the nation, but one third of voters showed up to say they are bitter about Obama. Running away from Obama did not help Democrats any more than running away from Bush helped Republicans when they got tossed out in mid terms. First you tell me you totally approve of gridlock when McConnell threatened to filibuster everything and now you say there is no gridlock. This makes no sense

  2. Yes, well the 16' elections is the prize isn't it? The Republican establishment is hell bent on projecting a kinder gentler image in the next two years as they know that the American electorate is composed largely of middle of the stream voters. The extreme left and extreme right make the most noise but when the big one comes, the moderates will decide the outcome. As for Boehner and McConnell, I predict that they will survive in their current posts. As I said before, we have an interesting time coming up.

    2. I tend to agree Mick, with the exception that I believe Boehnor and McConnell are going to do everything in their power to avoid passing any bill that angers their base and the reality is that their base wants only the most extreme action taken on immigration. Boehnor could have gotten a lot more done if he was willing to break the Hastert rule like he did to stop the shutdown. McConnell has already said there won't be any shutdowns on his watch, which has angered those in the party who want nothing short of full humiliation and possibly impeachment of Obama. Not sure how they walk that line.

    3. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky won election by fellow Republicans on Thursday to become Senate majority leader when the new Congress convenes in January, fulfilling a long-held ambition.

A Senate Republican official said McConnell, 72 was chosen by acclamation at a closed-door meeting of the rank and file.

    4. Max... you say that the base (republican) whats only the most extreme actions on immigration. In your opinion and in light of the 1986 immigration reform which was suppose to stop illegal immigration and subesquent amendments in the 1990's, what do you consider a reasonable response to this problem? It seems to me that this attempt directly echos the lastm only now, because provisions for enforcement were never serious with respect to the amnesty supporters, it is a greater problem than before.

    5. TS, you ask a very fair question. I'm not trying to be a wise ass but I believe a reasonable response is to first be reasonable. We have spent literally billions of dollars to build a wall and put border patrol agents down there. At some point, I think we need to say that we have done enough of THAT solution. Next, I think you have to drop a heavy hand on those who employ illegal workers. This is something I don't think we have been willing to do and for obvious reasons, business owners profit from this practice.

As for amnesty, I know this will enrage many, but the reality is that this is going to happen. For decades and decades, illegal immigrants have crossed our borders because there are American's who will give them jobs. Our approach, near as I can tell, has been to be pissed off at the immigrants and send billions of dollars trying to block them. It's like our drug policy, and our energy policy, we blame cartels for feeding our addiction. Tell me how many Republicans will vote for stringent punishments of businesses who employ illegals?

I think the solution is to punish those who employ illegals, maintain our presence at the border but not keep adding billions more to that sinkhole, provide some pathway to citizenship for those who are here, which basically means make them pay thousands of dollars to buy it and generally, accept reality that people want to come to this country because there is opportunity. If we want to stop people from coming here, keep collapsing wages and rolling back regulation until we look as shitty and miserable as China. THAT will keep the Mexicans out.

It will be so interesting to see how lame duck BO and lame duck Holder deal with the lame duck congress.
