  1. Has all the problems of the city of Detroit caused an awaking in Michigan.
Will this be the beginning of a nationwide trend?

  2. Sounds like a good idea, but, as they say, the devil is in the details. What kind of work would these people do? Most are on welfare because they are unemployable. So, the state government would probably have to create "busy work" jobs for them. Result: welfare under another name. Also, welfare recipient lays off drugs for a week, goes in for drug test and passes, then continues using drugs. I don't pretend to know the answer but it is not a simple fix.

    1. Gee Mick.....Just How do you know that " Most are on welfare because they are unemployable."?

Just getting them out of the house in the AM would be a good start,Physical activity. Might even help with the obesity problem.
I can think of lots of "busy work"
As far as drug test at least it would be one week off from drugs which is better than no week off from drugs.

    2. I didn't mean that you couldn't employ them, I meant you probably wouldn't want them as employees. Of course everyone is unique, so there are obviously some welfare recipients who would be good employees, but, it is my opinion that most would not. Is your experience different? Also, the aim of workplace drug testing is to ensure that employees are not coming to work high, not to rehabilitate addicts.

    3. Picking up garbage at the parks, schools, along streets, and other public places. Sweeping and moping of government buildings. There are a lot of low skill jobs around us that they can do.

    4. I agree with you Angie, I am all for it, I just don't think it will work in the real world. I hope I'm wrong.

  4. I for one have always picked up more trash than I brought upon visiting parks. It is not beneath me to do this but I am a taxpayer so it is expected isn't Mick... let the taxpayers do everything and allow the freeloaders to sit on their asses and suck up all the benefits ...

It is a shame when one wants to work and cannot find it. It is despicable if one refuses to work so to live of others.
