Poll: 80 percent of Americans don't trust the Republican party

The distrust of Washington and our elected officials only continues to grow and it's Republicans who are taking it on the chin.
Whether you're a Democrat or Republican, questions hang over your head whether both parties can work together and actually get something done. While both sides were able to put enough of their differences aside in order to pass a recent budget, the majority of the American people don't seem to put much stock in Washington. According to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, 80 percent of Americans don't trust the Republican party. Democrats fair slightly better, but still 72 percent of Americans lack confidence in them. Even Americans who identify as Republicans have a hard time trusting their own party as only 36 percent of self-identified Republicans believe the party is working in their own best interest.
The parties are also split when it comes to how Americans view them handling particular issues. Americans believe Republicans can handle the economy and the budget deficit better, but side with Democrats when it comes to health care despite all the negative press coming from "Obamacare."
President Obama has found a dim light at the end of the tunnel with his approval rating jumping 4 points since last November, now standing at 46 percent. The number the president should be worried about is that 50 percent of the country rates his performance negatively. President Obama's approval rating is nearly identical to George W. Bush at this point in his presidency but falls behind both former President Clinton and Reagan who held a strong 60 percent approval at this point during their time in the White House.
As the 2014 mid term elections inch closer, both parties will need to fire up their base, but it seems Republicans will need to get on that even faster.

  2. President Obama has found a dim light at the end of the tunnel with his approval rating jumping 4 points since last November, now standing at 46 percent.

    RCP Average
    3/26 - 4/16...
    Approve: 43.3%
    Disapprove: 51.6%

Seems to be slipping a bit.

    1. See depends on the poll. I bet if we look hard enough we can find one in which he is rated higher then 46%.

    2. Just goes to show you that 46% of people in this country will approve of a liar.

(Do you happen to recall Romney's famous 47% comment?)

    3. Rick if you look at the RCP it is an average of
      Gallup
      Rasmussen
      FOX News
      Reuters
      The Economist
      McClatchy
      Reason-Rupe/PSRAI
      Quinnipac

Might find 1 but can you find 8?

  3. What good is any poll when you can lock up elections with good old fashioned fraud?

  4. Thank you jimbo my point exactly. William presents a poll in the previous thread on lying. What difference does it make Obama can't run again anyway, and he lies no more then any other politician.

    1. That story is about how Dems let the fraud run rampant and when the Reps took control they found all these discrepancies.

And here we go with "the other guy" excuses.

  5. Thanks to our supreme court our elections are now an open bidding process.

    1. Have you ever read the CU decision?

I think from a strictly Constitutional/First Amendment perspective, the Court got it right - though I'll grant that it's unfortunate with regard to our electoral process.

The answer is to modify the way we fund our elections, i.e., 100% publicly funded races, especially on the national level.

There's nothing in the Court's decisions nor the in Constitution that forbids us from doing so.

    3. Gallup pretending to measure a movement. They can pretend to poll. We will pretend to believe them.

So why worry ric. The movement has no power at all.

    4. See captain hypocrite you believe a totally biased poll about the president but when it affects your movement it is bunk. How am I to respect your movement when it is so full of hypocrisy.

  7. What we gotta do, democrat, republican, or indies, is start relying on results instead of hype, doctored up polls, and media PR campaigns.
