The power of the purse

House Republicans Just Unleashed the Big Guns on Hillary’s Benghazi Cover-Up

Conservative hero Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is the Chair of the Benghazi Select Committee. And as the investigations into that shameful terrorist attack which resulted in the death of four Americans continue, only one thing has remained constant: President Barack Obama’s State Department has been dragging its feet about turning over requested documents.
Obviously, the State Department has something to hide and is scrambling to protect the legacy of Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign. The Benghazi committee just listed every lame excuse they have been given in response to very specific subpoena demands, and now the full U.S. House is fighting back in a big way!
Republicans are ready to use the House’s power of the purse to cut off State Department funding until the requested documents are released! This is the best way to wage WAR against these unelected Obama bureaucrats:
House Republicans are threatening to withhold a large chunk of State Department funding until officials speed up their responses to document requests, including House demands for documents pertaining to the Benghazi investigation and a probe of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
The House Appropriations Committee’s proposed 2016 spending bill for the State Department and foreign operations withholds 15 percent of the department’s “operational funds until requirements related to proper management of Freedom of Information Act and electronic communications are met,” according to a panel release.
The threat means House Republicans are using their most obvious weapon to hold State’s feet to the fire: the power of the purse.
The provision is part of a nearly $48 billion spending bill funding the department and the War on Terror, about $1.4 billion below this year’s number and $6.1 billion below President Barack Obama’s request. The legislation is also packed with other policy riders, including several aimed at blocking Obama’s attempt to normalize relations with Cuba and others to ensure the administration can’t facilitate a prisoner swap like the so-called Taliban Five again without Congress knowing.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who apparently ran the post-Benghazi cover-up efforts, has so much to answer for. For example, why was a video blamed for the attacks? And why were the security warnings from an American ambassador repeatedly ignored?
Polls shows that the American people want answers, as they are not impressed with her Obama Administration work. According to recent polling:
Though most — 61% — think the release of Clinton’s emails over the next months from her time as secretary of state will not reveal any previously hidden wrongdoing, the poll also finds 58% are dissatisfied with the way she handled the attack in Benghazi in 2012.

  1. I do not know who or what a TPI Writer is but this is the identity given for the author of this piece.

Just looking at random paragraphs we find references deliberately derogatory to Clinton, with others lauding the Reps on the enquiry. Three examples at random are (1) Conservative hero Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is the Chair of the Benghazi Select Committee (2) This is the best way to wage WAR against these unelected Obama bureaucrats.(3) The threat means House Republicans are using their most obvious weapon to hold State’s feet to the fire: the power of the purse.

I would imagine that there has now been millions of dollars spent on the witch hunt(my emphasis) and there is no end in sight. Presumably the process will be neatly timed to reach a contrived climax with an unfavorable finding at some point during the upcoming campaign. Sitting outside the arena as I do, brought up under an altogether different system of so called democratic government, I remain incredulous at the brain dead reactions to the Benghazi affair.

Here we have a tragic event in which four Americans lost their lives in the service of their country. The Sec State has immediately been harried from pillar to post in a shameful attempt to blacken her name. No one in the hunting pack gives a thought to the collateral damage to the families of those killed. There is only the blood lust and the red mist as decent Americans lose all sense of decency as they hunt for blood and guilt which may not even exist. This inquiry can only be seen as a Republican ploy to weaken an opponent they have no hope of defeating in the polls

I realize I have been scathing in my remarks but please contrast the loss of the four in Benghazi with the loss of thousands who go un-remarked each year because of the support of the NRA and the Republicans for unfettered rights of gun ownership. Americans are being killed on the streets of your great country and this slaughter is encouraged by the same red mist of a so called religion as written in the second.(the American term for this is citizens rights) What about citizens responsibilities and while you ponder that one, think also of the 6th and 8th amendments.

    1. Whether Hillary Clinton is complicate in the events of Benghazi or not I do not know but I do feel that full accounts of the events have yet to be given. In the many ‘investigations’ that found nothing compelling, the results were reached with incomplete evidence.. No? How could we actually know what was said and when if only of late do we discover that the Secretary of State used her own private e-mail server to conduct state business. Most previous ‘investigations’ had no idea that this server or official government business conducted on it even existed. You want to invoke the speedy trial of the 6th amendment but I am sure you will agree that withholding evidence falls somewhere in the realm of obstruction of that process.

You claim a witch hunt that will run up to the election yet, in the many years previous, Hillary didn’t tell anyone about her private server…. Now she claims she wants full disclosure. Was it the ‘witch hunt’ people’s fault she hid this very relevant and potentially illegally held information? Perhaps we should have just let sleeping dogs lie.. after all, the facts have been known for a very long time Right? Again, you claim this ‘witch hunt’ will run up to the election, yet it is the state department that filed a suit to release the information on her private server (what remains of it), in segments that will run this investigation right up to the election….

While one can look at the political grief suffered by the Clinton’s as mere right wing thuggery, I find it quite amusing that we want to pass over stolen documents, insider trading, affairs, lies under oath, removing government property from the Whitehouse, foundation ‘missteps’ , tall tales like being under fire in Bosnia and on and on as something created by someone other than the Clinton’s themselves… of course no one is a shoplifter until they get caught with the goods under their coat but make no mistake about it stores spend plenty to catch them and we all pay for their dishonesty.

I do think a lot about the 6th and 8th amendments… particularly when, in the execution of a no knock, no warrant invasion of the wrong home, an innocent person is shot to death by a cop for merely protesting the intrusion…

    3. TS.

The questions remains, when you let government investigate government do you get the truth or what government gives you.

Without a special prosecutor would we know about the transgressions of the Nixon administration?

What I find interesting is that Hilly wants full disclosure on her emails yet refused to turn the server over. Did she have the hard drive drilled? Game on with politics as usual.

    4. Lou my thanks for the explanation. I went to the site and after reading the articles I came to the conclusion that the site serves only to reinforce the beliefs of the rusted on Repubs and the Teas. Rational debate is impossible on so many of the articles which state as fact that which at best can only be classified as beliefs. I wonder if the drafters of the first amendment had this sort of garbage in mind as being a worthwhile freedom to incorporate into the constitution. Are there similar sites controlled by the Dems? I would also be interested to read the contributions of the mainstream Teas.

    5. John,
A few web sites to explore:

the folks on Front Range cannot conceive that Obama is anything less than evil, while the Democratic Underground folks tend to believe that everything John McCain does is an attempt to strangle America.

      Neither one obviously are true.

  3. Mr. Gowdy will continue. Ms. Clinton will sooner or later be required to answer the questions the American people have. Others will come forward as newly produced emails begin to implicate them, although half the emails were washed by Clinton and her lawyers.

She brought this on herself. As we can see with her foundation the only thing that talks is money. Pairing 15% from the State Department payroll should be cause for some consternation in Maryland and Northern Virginia. Other Departments will begin to come under the knife also. Pressure will build over the next 17 months.

We'll see what the polling foreshadows over time.

    Gowdy ain't going anywhere.
