“Our country is in serious trouble, we don’t have victories anymore,” Trump said to a raucous crowd while detailing what he considers America’s diminished standing compared to nations like China. “I beat China all the time,” he added.
He opened his remarks by taking shots at the current 2016 GOP field. “How are they going to beat ISIS?” he asked rhetorically. Trump spent a lot of time discussing foreign policy and America’s international reputation. “The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems,” Trump said, singling out Mexico in particular for criticism.
If we set aside the wealth discussion for a minute, I think everyone in life has met someone closer to home who has had many things going for them and no matter what their level of success you shake your head at them because you can't understand why they are so bitter. I have no illusions about how pompous I can be with my postings, but I think that when a guy like Trump runs, it makes a mockery of the process. Ultimately, it's not that big a deal because he could never win, but his presence attaches a cartoon like aura to any proceedings he is a part of. Romney, IMO, suffered from serious affluenza and does not remotely understand what average people go through. Still, there is a sharp contrast between him and Trump to me.
Trump in his own way reminds me of the London mayor Boris Johnson. Both men are a bit loud and somewhat eccentric but both say what they think… We have a president today who for all the things that people ‘think’ he is good for, is about as opaque in his motives as a steel door. I am sure that the results of the campaign rhetoric for immigration reform, healthcare and foreign policy weren’t quite what people imagined when they bought in to his campaign. We need someone who is not afraid to actually make his case to the American people, call out others publicly, if impolitely, for pandering or outright lying and for better or worse, he calls a spade a spade. While he no doubt has little chance of winning, perhaps people will pay attention to his message… they ignored Ross and that sucking sound is only getting louder….
I wouldn’t say that Trump was born with a silverspoon…. His dad was a builder of middle income apartments and the business that Donald inherited would be considered by government standards as small to medium sized business. He was bright but a bit of trouble makers so his parents sent him to military academy for discipline…. He was a good student and athlete and he worked for his dad on construction sights…. Where his is, I would surmise, is exactly where he worked himself to be…
Has there been any president in your lifetime TS who has lived up to your ideals? I'm thinking probably not. If we dug deep enough, I'd bet money we could find something on all of them that violated the law, if not the constitution.
The second half of your first para there is what I hear from a lot of people, and I'm not trying to kick the nest, but I just don't think it is realistic. As someone who actually voted for Ross Perot when I was a lot younger, I have, in hindsight, realized how unrealistic it is to expect glass wall transparency. Ross sure spoke his mind, and he was right about NAFTA. He was also, like many businessmen, a person who believes that his success (and money) buys him unquestioned power to ensure we all hang on his every last word, because after all, he's rich and must be smarter than everyone else.
Trump reminds me of Madonna more than anyone else and he accurately has continued to capitalize on the premise that there is no such thing as bad publicity. It's awesome that when you over leverage a business, you can file for bankruptcy and tell your lenders you aren't paying them back. When you are just some average slob, however, it's completely unacceptable. Meh, like I said, he isn't going anywhere and he isn't going to be taken seriously by anyone. Ross Perot actually accomplished something when he ran for president, he got Bill Clinton elected.
Think what you will about"the Donald" , I'll vote for him and get as many people as I can to do the same. He will cow-tow to no one!. No special interest s except what will bring America back to It s origins. Go Donald Go!
Let's get real, he is running for President as a member of a political party which does not want him. He knows that he has no chance of them nominating him, but he is an accomplished publicity seeker and what better publicity than running for President of the United States. He will be getting untold dollars worth of free publicity for virtually nothing (since he is worth about $9 billion, a few million here or there is chump change for him.) Having said all that, I am glad he is running, puts a little fun and variety in an otherwise deadly dull process.
